Yup, wife projects are expensive, & you know the old saying(s)...Originally posted by STINEY View PostYou'd better triple all cost estimates in that case. Nothing personal towards your particular wife, just knowing about the lack of a Y chromosome clues me in.....

little more done
backup shop dog - posing in front of motor/trans bolted together

hood sits flat

bit more trimming on the inside

cross member sitting under its new home

motor in its new home

4" of clearance under the oil pan will be plenty... now I need to get the cross member in place to see if I can use stock control arms... then cut the rear diff down to match front.. then everything else.Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

You are mental...and this is a very neat thing to see go together.

There's more metal in your "chassis jig" then in some semi truck frames - what is that 3x6 box tubing?
That engine looks amazingly well at home in that compartment - the hood closing is monumental. I hope your wife doesn't have big feet - and doesn't mind pedals being close together.
Are you hanging a 8.8 IRS from the back of this thing or staying solid axle? There's always something new to learn.Comment

2x4 box tubing - it's going to be a workbench with adjustable legs when I get the car off of it. I'm glad I welded to it - I'm using it to fix the frame cracking problem.
solid axle for now - I don't want to get bogged down
the Spider looks like a 2 seater, but is a 4 seat car - I'm eliminating the back seat and moving the firewall back 4" so, looking at the interior picture - the firewall will be about where the hydraulic clutch connection point is then angle up to where the trans/motor bolts together....
The more I look at it, the more I'm likely to just make new rails for the suspension and gain some motor real estate (exhaust room).Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

Given where you're at, I'd think about buying a couple of the adjustable spring perches and weld them in to that front. That adjustability might come in handy when you're setting it up.
Good to see that hood closed. Not having to modify the hood is huge.I'm still learningComment

In look at it tonight, I think I have more room then I originally thought... oh well, it's good to have too much
I'm still not sure what's going to be the spring in the car (coil-overs, stock springs, airbags) so I was planning on simply making rods to be the "spring" while I build it....Doing it all wrong since 1966Comment

Milner asked about megasquirt...
I don't know yet - there's a guy who tunes the CTS motor about 5 miles from my house and who comes highly recommended on the Pirates4x4 site. There might be some kind of deal that I can make with him to use the GM computer - apparently (still classified as "rumor") the computer can self-tune for power adders.... he's interested in doing a turbo'd CTS 3.6 tune - I'm interested in not spending a ton of money.... and, hmmm.... I think I'll mention the rest of that when things become more planned - just to say, it's pretty cool if it comes to passDoing it all wrong since 1966Comment
