I had a bunch of these at work...the 4 door versions when I was in Alaska...they were not fast but dead nuts reliable and they would tow damn near anything...I would like to see before and after dyno numbers with the banks kit for one of these. I bet it would be cheaper it to find one and fix it up AND add the Banks stuff than it would to buy a newer diesel

I'm holding out for a duramax - especially since this motor will last longer then I care to keep it. There are a few issues with the Gale banks stuff - one is they can cause melt downs; and two long term there were some oiling issues. My interim thought is to find a 6.5 turbo diesel.... but those don't even get the mpg of a N/A 6.2.
it's true, the 1st 60 feet the 6.2 pulls really hard - even absolutely loaded to the gills.... even climbing mountains - 45 mph is their speed, doesn't matter what grade

Heck, it's a diesel, build your own turbo system. It should be cake compared to a gas engine.

I bet a remote turbo system could be done SUPER cheap on this truck...plenty of room under there to mount one too.

used powerstoke turbo's are plentiful and can be had cheap - I've purchased more than one for $75 or so at swap meets....

although - dead nuts reliable and not worrying about melt downs certainly has it's merits - I had an idi na 7.3 for a while - you just can't be in a hurry or try to drag race anybody, they get surprisingly good fuel economy.

while all the above is true - this motor has at least 161,000 on it, and more likely 261,000; so a turbo would be tempting fate only slight more than riding a bicycle to a logging event. And yes, I'm well aware that stock is far too reliable - however, stock also allows me to fix my broken buick or broken fiat....

Yes..you wont outrun anything, but the 6,2 are very reliable, and gets good mpg.My 93 silverado,is down at 24 mpg at the highway.Makes more money for the Chevelles 10mpg...The one you have there, seems to be rust free...how did that happen?.
