    Our '72 Demon

I say "our" because my wife shed as much blood as I did putting it together.

The day I bought her - July 2004:

The car as purchased from the second owner had 38000 documented original miles, 318/904 auto. I got all of the paperwork, from the bill of sale through every service record from 1972 up.

We drove & enjoyed the car "as is for two summers while we collecrted parts & supplies for her eventual makeover.

Then in Sept 2005, we drove her into the garage and began tearing her apart.

We did everything on the car ourselves with the exception of paint & bodywork. There was no rust repair due to the car's pampered life and low mileage. There were however dozens of parking lot dings to be removed.

Then she came back to us with the engine bay & jambs painted. The body is still in primer so it's not tragic should we nick it putting the car back together.

Many upgrades ensue at this point: 340/4 speed in place of the 318/904, front discs replace the tiny drums, and of course a 3.55:1 83/4" diff goes in place of th 7.25" spindly little thing. Bolt pattern for wheels change with these upgrades as well.

                      Re: Our '72 Demon

After mechanicals were mostly done, went back to the body shop in the fall of 2006 for paint, we went to work getting other stuff ready to be installed in the car. It's important to note that other than safety items like suspension/steering/brakes, virtually everything on the car is refurbished original or swap meet/junkyard parts. I simply did not have the budget to go buy everything I needed brand new.

                      A couple examples:

The front seat upholstery had to be re-covered with new skin. This seat came from a valiant, replacing the original which I despised. The rear seat is from a '73 dart-sport and was near perfect. We dyed it black from it's original white...

Thanks - a few passes are among the plans for this summer, should my schedule allow.

And we spend the winter of 2006/2007 putting all the rest of the goodies back onto the car....
