Dan, for me it is way more that rooting for a big corporation. As a Steelers fan, man I can tell you that loyalties runs deep. Steelernation is a way of life, it brings families, communities and even counties together. It helps local businesses and pump money into the local economy. You should see the city of Pittsburgh on game day, hell even during the season. When the mills were closing, when things were going to hell in the 70's the Steelers gave a region of the state hope, something to stand behind and something to feel good about all the while their lives were going in the shitter.
It is a tie to home for me as well during game day I get calls from friends all over the world to talk about our black and gold. I grew up watching the Steelers, my dad grew up watching the Steelers and my grandpa was around when Rooney Sr. purchased the team with winnings from a horse race. It is not much different than rooting for your favorite driver or being loyal to your favorite brand of car.
Thats why I am a Steelers fan, reasons far deeper that a bandwagon or a corporation...Lots of folks dont get it, but at the same time...I find it hard to believe that people can't get behind a team or driver...
