Re: Killer myself when I was young....
That may have been one of the most intense videos I've ever seenRumors of my demise by rollover have been greatly exaggerated. -
Re: Killer myself when I was young....
that was intense.
the oxymoron of switching video back and forth from open cockpit death to the late 30s or 40s eggshaped tougher than a space shuttle was rather stupid however..
it figures the uploader is some blog site.
I'd rather a bubble top coupe than an 87 subaru...and the subaru is faster with a crazy tin can. Tyey could make a modern vid out of more deadly.. open cockpit is only one of them.
hate these chassis mixups. lies deciept marketing and carpocalypse.
put the weak where they belong.Previously boxer3main
the death rate and fairy tales cannot kill the nature left behind.Comment

Thank God I live in the modern era.
If that doesn't make you wanna go out and build a rollcage, put in a 5-point, and a fire suppression system, I dunno what ever could.Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

Re: Killed myself when I was young....
This film reminds me, in Peter DePaolo's book "Wall Smacker" he recounts his racing days in the teens and 20's, including several near fatal crashes. He lived through crashes like the ones in the video, being flung from the car at over 100 mph, hit by another race car, lying on the track assumed to be dead. Destroying his car and spending his entire fortune on hospital bills.
He describes the huge purses, and how racing drivers could become very wealthy if they won just a couple races. The lure of riches was strong enough to risk death for, over and over again. When the depression hit hard in the early 30's the purses dropped way off, and Depaolo quit racing. He then claimed that the drivers who were willing to go out and risk their lives for a pittance were nuts and foolish.Comment
