This was while using both nothing or the Moroso restrictors in the thermostat housing. It would cool down below 170 in minutes of sitting in the shade running the fan and water pump on battery though.

I then decided to try using a thermostat with the CSI pump but it kept blowing the bottom hose off. After talking to a few guys I drilled 3 x 9/64" holes in the flat surround of the 180 thermostat as a bit of a bypass and I never had another issue on the road or hot lapping it at the track for test/tune. (or DW09 for that matter) We'll see how this setup works on the new stroker as I plan to transfer it over.
How big of a radiator do you have??
    I have a cross flow 21" x 19" dual 1" core and I run a perma-cool 16" 2950 cfm fan inside a home-made shroud.

BTW - I was trying to look up my fan and it looks like nobody carries it anymore. Is Perma-Cool gone now or did somebody maybe buy them? Their website is pretty much dead.

I run a little hot on the X-way at 3000 RPM for extended periods of more than 45 minutes. It stays around 180 around town and rises to 220 on the X-way.I have a CV electric pump,2 row large tube rad,HHR fan.
I was thinking of going back to a belt drive pump to see if it makes a difference.

Hey, Cross-flow rads are more efficient, right?

I'm curious, as my old man is figuring out his cooling setup for his flathead.... two outlets, two inlets, etc.

take the two pump inlets and "T" them into one radiator outlet?

Or just go with the monster stock style radiator? Its a biggie... weird, b/c the stocker in my '56 is half the size, for like 100 more cubic inches (sbc).
Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

on an SBC you aren't cooling the exhaust manifolds like you do with the inblock passages on the flattie.

Overheating in Florida Summers with ambient temps reaching over 95*, I knew I had to do something.
After a lot of research, I decided to install a BeCool system in my '63 Nova SS.
700hp aluminum radiator, twin 11" electric puller fans & shroud and aluminum overflow reservoir.
Never had an issue after that !!!
