This is the first one I've been involved with - but I've seen them in a handful of fast bonneville cars. Was it the McMeekin family that ran one in a 3rd gen F-body? there was a gorgeous roadster pitted next to us at SW 2010 who had a MFI'd Jimmy engine with a big Procharger... I have video of it somewheres...?

My goodness, that sure is nice work and those welds... so pretty! ;) lol

I really dig keeping the old-school colours on the engine, looks very classy. The turbo and EFI take this truck to a whole new level of awesomeness.

I'm really looking forward to the updates

Modern engines are cool but there's just something about a vintage engine with a few modern updates. That's way cool! This is one project I wish I could go see. Nice work Gary! and dieselgeek ;D

ch1II, you are right all the stainless came from places that do food processing equiptment. Some of it very cheap out of the scrap bin. The muffler came from Speedway Motors, it was a header muffler that I cut off the flange and welded the 2-1/2" OD stainless turbing to. What do you think of the throttle body exhaust cut out that will be cable operated from inside the cab. I hope it doesn't get too hot for the aluminum throttle body.

I thought that's what that was.... yeah, hope it lasts. If the throttle plate itself is aluminum, it's possible it could get hot enough to melt?

Might want to plan on running a normal block off plate that you unbolt. I expect the exhaust will be relatively quiet when you're not "on it" with the "go pedal" "to the wood", so you could probably get by going for a cruise with it open.

Guy is doing something simular with a Crown Vic TB on the TurboBuick board though his is actuated by boost pressure using a wastegate diaphram. Not sure how far down the exhaust your's is but he's is mounted where the cat used to be on a Turbo Regal.

                          Good to know some farmer somewhere's ain't sit'n in the barn using a pail and cuss'n y'all :D :D

I'm pretty sure your going to find out right quick how that throttle body exhaust cutout works but I'm not going to speculate ;D

I found a thread on inliners.org where guy were talking about using longer rods and lighter custom pistons for more hp at a higher rpm in a 302 jimmy. Will post link if any one is interested, surfing there next.

There are several makers of those flanges but the ones we used were from Ladish - Tri-Clover is the series. Felker Brothers makes a similar product but they are not interchangable (or weren't the last time I messed with 'em).

                              Today's update from Gary:

The cut-out is done with the exception of hooking up the cable. The turbo/intercooler/throttle body is all plumbed up including the BOV. I am ready to start running the fuel lines and wiring.

nice work on the tubing.... although it brings up bad memories of when I had to work for a living (I used to build commercial stainless food prep equipment). ;)

seeing the tube go through the surface rust - I thought "I wonder what some archeologist will say in five thousand years when all he finds is those tubes." Probably "it was used in the worship of salt at a prehistoric salt lake bed." ;D
