Me,personally? I think they're ALL PHONIES....along with the Cars AND the prices. Odd,20-plus years ago, nobody ever thought(or CARED...) that any of this old shit was ever going to be worth anything, only a select few(Ok,maybe the 'Hard-Core' Drag Racers,ect...)folks knew what a ZL-1/C.O.P.O. Camaro/Z-11 'Lightweight' Impala/whatever was,and now ya got folks out there wearin' Yenko Polo Shirts. Everybody's suddenly become 'an 'EXPERT" or to go one better.....a SPECULATOR with those Cars. Same goes for just about any old or new Camaro/Hemi/Hemi-Ram Truck/whatever. Consider the phrase:--"Overhyped,OVERPRICED(V-E-R-Y....) And Over Here." Sometimes Fella's....ya just gotta let it out :P ;). ~J/W.

Seems to me that I remember this being the case. Something to do with the bright lights.

I know most auctions give owners an estimated sell price and when they are way over estimated have really pissed off sellers who dont come back.
Yup, hit it on the head.I hate to hear him try and bull shit the bidders.---To bad schmuck, its an auction and that is what they are payin.

OK, got it. Stahl and I put our heads together once and came up with the list & some History of the 12 Factory AWB cars. The car in question only brought $75,000 at BJ Saturday night, that was a shame, hard to believe there wasn't some collector there willing to pay more!
              Yep. We were all wrong.

                Re: So at Barrett-Jackson...

The Silver Dollar car, while being an awesome time capsule and very cool to look at, doesn't have much racing heritage to hand a hat on. It never won anything of significance (to my knowledge) and was a minor player in the west coast gasser scene.

The ad for the car at the auction has a lot of crap in it, like how this particular car was the reason for the 24" crank centerline rule. That rule was in place before this car was built into a full on racer. There's a claim that this was one of the last A/GS cars to have a Chevy engine in it. While that may be true in one sense, basically by the time this car last saw the track the Hemi was really dominating and only a handful of guys (like New Jersey's Jack Merkel) stuck with Chevy engines. The owner was preparing a Hemi for the car when it left the scene and sat in a barn for decades.

I REALLY like the thing, but to make it sound like some sort of significant part of drag racing history is a pretty big stretch.
