I'm sure the sizes will be standard enough, just no one puts them in a nice packaged kit.

Ha! Once I get the shelving cleaned off and organized in the Barn, lots of stuff I dropped off in the enclosed part will be moved out to other areas of the barn.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

This is lagging a bit, but got an e-mail yesterday saying some parts are headed my way at some point this week. In that batch I expect the needed valve or valve spring. I also got a call from the shop that does fancy head porting on these heads, but haven't returned the call yet. It's on my to do list. I'm thinking very shortly after Drag Week having an engine together and yanking the 400 out of the Firebird.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

Not that I'm aware of. I think the stall converter is too tight for the cam though.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

variable vane would help with that?
I'd like to see if we can get Squirrel interested in a controller for an HE351v. All that robotic knowledge would transfer to a variable vane pretty well I would think?Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

Great thread sir. Did you ever find out if your bird left the factory with a 400 in it? Sometimes you can find the orginal build sheet under the rear seat or behind the panel under the rear passenger side quarter window. I'm starting a conversion on my 1952 F1 to a 4x4. The plan is to remove the FE thats now in it and put the 230 sprint motor I have in. I've rounded up the large parts and now I looking for the smaller parts. Do you know if there is anyone making new flywheels? Keep up the good work.Comment

Randall, do you happen to have a pic of your fuel pump, or a part number (interchange). When I dropped my engine, thats the part that nailed my knee. It seperated where it meets the inlet/outlet assembly. It appears both O'Reilly's and Napa don't have a clue unless I can give them a Vin number.Originally posted by TheSilverBuick View PostIt's a sickness I tell you (and heavy to move from a basement!)

Alternativley, I could go to electric if I can find a block off plate. I guess. Why dance when you can rock and roll?Comment

There are pictures earlier in the thread, but nothing up close. I can get a better picture and possibly some numbers off it tonight.Originally posted by patrickth View PostRandall, do you happen to have a pic of your fuel pump, or a part number (interchange). In an update to this thread in general. The guy that was sending me the valve springs and valves forgot to mail the box before he went on vacation, and yesterday remembered and they should be on their way shortly now. Not a big deal since I haven't had time to work on it.
Also, the guy that has experience porting these heads and re-working the combustion chamber over around the valves called me this last weekend and re-quoted me a pretty good price. I'm planning on either dropping a head off at his shop in November OR the guy with the valves and valve springs said he is willing to take one of the heads he has laying around to the shop (because it's 20 minutes from his house) so the work can begin sooner.
I really need to get on getting my semi-blank cam ground so I know what valve stem length's to go with to finish up the head work.
I can't wait to get one the first engine running. I think I'm going to build an engine test stand to fire it up outside the car first. The guy I bought my house from left a bunch of steel box tubing he said that was what he was going to do with it.Escaped on a technicality.Comment

No, thats o.k, will be re-reading the thread anyway and also doing some re-reading on Yuku OHC site. Just have to make some decisions. OHC fits fine in my Impala, trying to decide if I want to leave it in there.Originally posted by TheSilverBuick View PostThere are pictures earlier in the thread, but nothing up close. I just sent an e-mail off to a guy that has experience re-grinding the cams for these engines. He also used to make intake/exhaust flanges for them, so I asked to see if he had any to sell or a CAD drawing I could have/buy to get one water jetted. Crossing my fingers he will help me out! I need to know the cam spec's in order to install the right valve stem lengths in the head. When the base circle is reduced it has to be made up in length on the valve length and shimming up the lash adjuster. Lash caps on the valve stem are options, but it's better to get the right valve length to begin with so the cam followers don't have to be modified for the extra width of the lash adjusters around the stem.Escaped on a technicality.Comment
