Electric Water Pump on a Street car?

Have any of you guys actually run an electric water pump on the street in a car with any HP? say like 500hp...

I'm asking cause the 32 isn't happy with the spacing between the water pump and new fan that should actually keep it cool...

    Thanks in advance...

Keith ( I didn't put it in the tech section cause I was hoping to get a larger percentage of drivers... shoot I should put it in the power tour section )... hmmm

Do you still have a short water pump on it? Cuz you're not going to find an electric pump that's shorter than that unless you remote-mount the pump. Either way, an electric pump will look way wrong.

I've got one on mine, 423 rwhp if that qualifies. If you do decide to go with an electric wp order two, and carry the extra one with you. Trust me on this.

Re: Electric Water Pump on a Street car?

That depends on what you mean by "street car". Mine is around 500hp.

I have been using the Moroso electric motor that drives the stock water pump using a cogged belt, with the large pulley on the electric motor for more flow. I have two 12" electric fans mounted to the radiator.

After about 10 miles in the summer, at 55mph, my temp got over 180, so I stopped and let it cool down... I know, I know... but I like to keep it around 160. When it starts going over 180, it makes me nervous.

If you're intention is to go on long road trips... sorry, can't help ya. For in-town cruising around, I'd say you'd be fine with an elec water pump.

i run a mezeire on my 9 sec. (1/4) t/a. it works great. usually runs around 175-180 degrees in the summer time. i do occasional freeway driving (around 55-60 mph). thats with a 3.73 and a glide trans with 3600 convertor. it also has the factory electric fan and a 160 thermostat.

I'm just trying to weedle out of what I really need to do which is move the Radiator forward 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch... causing several other issues... Just didn't want to do it... but Freiburger's right the thing needs a regular water pump...

Which is why the hood won't fit.

actually the hood is going to need a stretch job on the bottom but the top two panels will work... Putting it on was SCARY... LOL but I used a ton of gaffers tape and a few of those Blue rags... went on and came off without a scratch this time.......

Re: Electric Water Pump on a Street car?

I used to run the moroso belt driven setup , without a thermostat on the street and it held at a perfect 170 while cruising and about 180 while going slow or stopped in traffic with both the electric fans on .
I've seen jegs or somebody that sells discs for the thermostat area with different sized holes to regulate water flow for this type of notion .

Sometimes it's about looks , sometimes it's about function .

Keith, look at a Stewart inline pump. If you have the room it will solve your problem keeping the stock water pump.

i agree on cheking with stewart, I swapped a stock pump to a stewart stage 2 pump, with matching t-stat and kissed all my overheat concerns good-bye. car would get hot( 230 up) in any stop go traffic and was miserble to drive. after the pump change, ran 165 and highest it ever got was 198 on a 90deg day sitting in jersey shore traffic for 1 1/2 hours doing the beep and creep. I do use redline water wetter, not sure if it works , but I use it.
I dont use the inline ,but I did check it out as an option.
and you can get there pumps polished , if your into shiny.
