    heeeelp.

Put my new trans in and had the converter gone thru. Hughes recommended type f Castrol. With my old trans and royal purple the trans never went over 180. Now on a short trip its at 200. What fluid are you guys with 4500+ stall running.

I have always used garden variety Dexron trans fluid including generic store brand. SEERED has a 6500 coan converter but I run trans fluid through the radiator cooler and an auxillary cooler and never have had trans temps near 200 unless on the trans brake long and repeatedly. Remember I even pulled a trailer on all three drag weeks that I have attended.

Napa Dex/Mercon III, my stall speed is only 4200 though.

I shouldn't say 4500. Behind the new engine it stalls 5500. And its a 3800 pound car with 4.10,s so the trans always ran at about 180 with syn fluid. I'll swap it over to Amsoil tommorow and see what happens.

I say let it eat!! What cooler do you have on it?? With that loose ass converter, heavy car, and the trailer, it is gonna run warm on steady runs... You are not leaning on it hard while it is running hot like that, I don't see any real harm, but then again, I don't really know shit about an automatic transmission, hell, I don't even have a trans. temp gauge, so mine MUST be running cool! :P

I have two large 5/8 tube coolers up front. I'm gonna swap it out to Amsoil tommorow and throw a fan on one cooler. Hughes is saying the higher line pressure may also be causing it to run a little hotter. They said don't worry till it hits 240...lol.200 was on a short drive to work on the highway 20 miles. With no trailer.

I think the plate type coolers are much more effective at dissipating heat, like the B&M Supercooler.. I have that type cooler mounted right behind the rearend w/ a fan built right onto it.. I don't think synthetics are as good at removing heat, so you may see a drop in temp., but internal parts could run as hot or maybe hotter.. The synthetics can tolirate heat better.. A LOT of the guys running big turbo cars where the trans temps can get crazy are running hyd. oil, not trans fluid.. I run pretty standard stuff, but it would be easy enough to find out..

Do yourself a favor, go to the trans section on yellowbullet, you will get the REAL answer there!!

My converter stalls 4600 on the brake. I run Royal Purple trans fluid. I have the largest B+M stack plate cooler they make that comes with a fan. It is mounted under the bed, blowing air from the top to bottom. With the bed loaded, and 2 people, I would guess the truck weighs about 4200 pounds. I monitor the tempature of the trans oil in the pan. The highest I saw last year on Drag Week was 210 degrees. Most of the time it ran around 190.

Talked to jeffmkc on the phone and he agreed...I'm gonna switch to Amsoil and get a large b and m stack plate type cooler and see where that gets me. Even with the two large tube/fin coolers I'm running people say they don't work very well.
