What GM cars had OBDII in 1993? I was only aware of a couple Ford models with it in 1995 as vehicles with it prior to 1996.

Re: Check Engine Soon light? 2003 F-150

GM had a weird OBD 1.5 for 95 in a lot of models that were carrying over with little redesign money. The F, B, and W bodies come to mind. It was like an OBDII connector without all the OBDII standardization behind it. GM was a huge influence on how the OBDII actually turned out since they had standardized stuff internally for years previously. What you're probably thinking of is when Ford went to the CAN bus instead of the classic PWM OBDII

I am happy with all my Actron diagnostic equipment but a Snap-On would probably be a good investment if you can find it for a good price.

it uses the obd2 connector - it is obd2 -p0 codes and all
p0 codes go back to caddy on board in 1985

honda used to hide the checkj engine light under the seat
obd2 standardized it all -for some reason , it does not apply to german cars - which break more than all others

Re: Check Engine Soon light? 2003 F-150

            UPDATE: Buddy just bought Actron CP 9180. ;D Result: 02S Heater CKt Malfunction 1/2 P 0141 :P

I found the following on ODB-Codes.com "This code means that the heated circuit in the oxygen sensor on bank 1 decreases time needed to enter closed loop. As the O2 heater reaches operating temperature, the oxygen sensor responds by switching according to oxygen content of the exhaust surrounding it. The ECM tracks how long it takes for the oxygen sensor to begin switching. It the ECM determines (based on coolant temp) that too much time elapsed before the oxygen sensor began operating properly, it will set P0141. See also: P0135 (Bank 1, Sensor 1)." and,

Causes - A code P0141 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

?open or short to ground in the wiring harness
?O2 heater circuit wiring high resistance
?O2 heater element resistance is high
?Internal short or open in the heater element

Solution - 1) Replace oxygen sensor (cannot repair open or short that occurs internally to sensor)
            2) Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors

It would seem that the quick and easy thing is but a new sensor after checking to be sure the harness looks clean, no burns or damage. I'm less clear on the proper tesign methods for the second solution. Despite the low miles the truck is seven years old and losing a sensor doesn't seem unusual to me.

            Other suggestions?

Bank 1, Sensor 2? are there two sensors on each bank in which case this is the second one, presumably down stream or doe s this mean somehting else. And, yes you are right I haven't gotten under the truck to look yet.

The Sensor after the catalytic converter on the drivers side. First things first, look at it and it's wiring harness. If the wiring has been damaged (rubbing the frame, burned on the exhaust, dog chewed on it, etc), then start with trying to repair the wiring. Otherwise it may need a replacement.

Just the answer I was looking for. Willthe code clear after its fixed or do I reset it with the Actron?

I see heater codes - check the o2 sensor fuse - usually a fried o2 heated sensor

                        I learned something new

If you find something for certain, you could either clear the codes or drive it for a while and eventually it'll turn off.

You'll want to clear the code, after replacement.

ITS common code, you can probe the connector to make sure it has power and ground its common sensor to fail

I'm betting a sensor replacement does it.

You can tell if it's going to fail by using the 9180 scanner in realtime data mode. Run the engine and watch all the O2 signals, it's clear when one is not working properly - it wanders all over the place while the others stay close to each other.

Use this same mode to make sure you disconnected the correct sensor too. Disconnect the one you think is bad, from the harness, start the car and scan with the 9180 in realtime mode. You'll see which one you disconnected showing zero volts output.

That's a handy scanner for the money - same one I have, and it gets a LOT of use!
