Might want to start looking in the New Orleans area for the start of 2011 Power Tour. We were told by a fairly reliable birdie that is where it is going to start. Made it sound like it will be another downtown venue though ??? ???

I'll take downtown New Orleans over Mobile thank you very much. Beale Street :P. The next day could suck though :D.

Dude, what do you think Bourbon Street is. ;D

Tour made a stop in New Orleans in 2003. The venue was at the fairgrounds, not downtown. I saw many red Edelbrock hats out in the bars/on Bourbon St. until LATE in the evening. I myself may have been overserved that night. I didn't make it to the driver's meeting the next moring.

Definitely another humid week if it's starting in New Orleans...... The Superdome is large enough to host it, but driving around downtown New Orleans pretty much sucks, it's always way too crowded.

We hit there on the way back this year and I didn't feel comfortable leaving the car so I stayed with it while Sharon went into the Hard Rock for her pin to add to the collection.

I have passed a email onto my uncle and cousin who live in the area, and have for the past 10 years or more.
                            I asked him
                            About safety
                            Easy access to possible venues
                            Safe on a budget

I know the Metairie area isn't bad because that is where they used to live.

I personally booked a Super 8 northeast of town in the Plum Grove area based off a decent rating on Tripadvisor.com, and based on a great rate i got.

I know i would not stay at the Travelodge Westbank. Stayed there 1 week before power tour last year for my cousins wedding and the hotel was not very up to par, it was far from all the action, and was not the best area. I would stay away from anything on the Westbank.

This is my first power tour on my own, and i am going to be on a budget.

Any info i will pass on.

When we went to visit with the Brady's and friends, we stayed at a comfort inn in St. Rosa. It was new, clean and they claimed to have camera security. It is NOT in New Oreleans so it would be a bit of a drive but perhaps not too bad considering.

                              Here is a link

I am sure that others will have more info IF in fact we are starting in NOLA.

IF the Power Tour starts in NOLA (New Orleans, LA) next year, I will inform everyone of what hotels to stay in, what places to stay away from, etc. I don't care much for this pre-booking of hotels on hunches, so until it is official, only then will I give my suggestions on exact hotels, restaurants, etc.

If it does start in NOLA, it would be at the Fair Grounds, or the Super Dome. Be prepared for the heaviest traffic and hottest weather you have ever dealt with. Its severely humid here at that time of year and the NOLA streets aren't designed for heavy vehicle traffic and can barely handle the pedestrian traffic during events like Mardi Gras.

Parking in NOLA is "safe" if you park in one of the secure paid parking lots or garages. Not that people haven't been mugged or vehicles broken into in those areas, it is actually very rare as the police keep the Vieux Carre (French Quarter) area very secure for tourists. Its only when you venture out of these ares do you need to be very careful.
