I believe the walter p chrysler museum is in Hays, KS or thereabouts.
If you head up through the dakotas, definitely do Mt Rushmore. Badlands are pretty neat but just lots of open scenery on that part of the country. You could hit Jackson Hole WY and see the Tetons, pass through Jellystone on your way into Montana. Coming out of the northwest corner of Yellowstone into Montana is a cool place called Burgdorf Hot Springs that has a hot springs pool and old hotel that are neat to stay at.
Henry Ford Museum Mich. .... and the Auburn Cord Duesenburg Museum in Ind.
If you are in this neck of the woods, there is the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, Indiana, and of course the museum at the Indianapolis Speedway. I have seen the Studebaker Museum, but never been to the Speedway Museum. It is on my list of car places to visit. It is supposed to be pretty cool.
my parents were in memphis a few weeks ago and still havent stopped talking about Rum Boogies, must be a good place and they're fairly hard to impress
The Boogie is great. Worked there years back. The first time I had BBQ ribs was there. Ruined me for life. I haven't found any that match it yet. Always had damn good music come through there too.
Well, we leave this afternoon. Here are the spots I want to/ plan to/ hope to visit:
Soda Pops in Arcadia, OK- we will make time for that (gives me a chance to go down a little section of 66!)
Kansas Kosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS
Yellowstone National Park
Glacier NP
Badlands NP
Mt. Rushmore
Speedy Bills Museum
and whatever else we see as we are driving. I wish I had time for all the suggestions you guys threw out there. Future road trips!
Tedly- I used to live in North Mississippi and have been to Memphis multiple times. However, it has been a while. On Beale, I liked BB Kings- good food and great atmosphere. I visited Jerry Lee Lewis's bar back when he had one (now the site of another bar). Never even heard of Rum Boogie Cafe. My wife and I love the zoo- we were members there at one time. Been to Graceland- shag carpet on the ceiling- why is that not popular any more? Depending on what time it is when we go thru Memphis, I may try to stop for food at one of your suggestions.
Sorry not more car related stuff. I know how to get to the usual spots for the street racing, but I couldn't give directions if my life depended on it. There's a huge flea market but it's only on the 3rd weekend of every month. Couldn't find any shows or swap meets. Memphis Motorsports park closed too, I think. :-\
Anyway, have a blast on the road and take shit tons of pictures for us!
