I think you guys are taking me too seriously here. I've actually taken great pains to save the best section of what's left of the original paint on the car. If I ever decided to repaint the car that color, I'll be able to get the shade correct.

Pictures, Scott, pictures. I don't recall seeing any sections of your car being pink in the pictures you've posted..

The paint was sanded off before I bought the car. The most pristine paint is under the trunk lid and the passenger door jam. The door jam paint is still gorgeous, but has a bit of over spray from the last black paint job. Not many of us have taken pics of those areas of our cars.

LOL, you tell 'em Scott!!! :D ;D ;)

I think that freakin' pink color is cool-lookin'!! Anyway, I have a Matchbox GTO in almost that exact color, with Superfast wheels, so I guess it came out in 1969...I have the original version in red that came out in 1964, which looks more like a lowrider.
Mike the Matchbox you have is a Grand Prix .I have one too ;D. I like evening Orchid as well.
You're absolutely right, Anthony - my bad! A brain fart, I suppose. But yes, that's the car! It's a bit darker color than the evening Orchid (which I think is halfway between pink and purple - a sort of metallic lavender ) There were some awesome colors on those old cars and Matchboxes!! I think there was a VW Type III fastback in a similar shade - got that too).

Scott, I'm glad you're going to rebuild the engine and do other upgrades. It will turn into a wicked street machine before too long!

Apropos pink muscle cars, I almost kick myself for not buying a factory pink 1970 Mach 1 back 15 years ago in Galveston for $3000. I simply didn't have enough shore leave from the Delta Queen when we were in port that day.

That'd be great. We'll hit up Irwindale. Mine with the worn out 454 and your gas mizer 455. It'll even more exciting than the race between Chad's 66 Bel Air wagon and DF's 67 Impy convert, both with 283 2bbls. I'll have to fix that broken wheel stud first.

                            Re: Rebeldryver's '70 Caprice project

Well, I had to bust out the wrenches a little earlier than planned on the Golden Grannymobile. While gassing it up, the attendent told it was leaking water. It turns out it was leaking from the upper radiator hose at the water neck.

After pulling the upper radiator hose, I discovered this mess. This is a factory GM pot metal POS. What brilliant engineer thought saving weight with a crap water neck on a '70 Chevy fullsize with a ACed 454?

                            Heres the hose.

I got a new iron waterneck from Autozone for $7.00 plus a new 180* thermostat.

Before and after cleanup around water mounting area.

I drilled two 3/32 in. holes in the thermostat using my uber rare optional trunk mounted vice. Both my cars have this neato option.

I thought I'd run a tap through the bolt holes mainly because they go into the water cross over to help them seal better.

I thought I dump the ugly bolts for some nicer ones.

Here's it is. My shiney, newly painted water neck on my rusty iron intake.

I wish I could say I was done, but no go. Turns out using the nice bolts was a mistake. They didn't seal, so out they came and out came the coolant all over the damn place. The green does contrast nicely with the orange/rust engine.

I stopped and stared at the engine for near an hour debating about tearing the rest of the engine out of the car. I just needed to replace the water neck and next thing I knew the engine was all over the yard type of debate. If Gregg's car wasn't in the driveway too in front of the Caprice, the debate would have gone on longer. I honestly don't know what I would've decided. Gregg's lucky his car wasn't buried behind a car in pieces for six months.

You got lucky the bolts came out and didn't snap off in the intake. I got called into that job with a 350-powered 80's Malibu. My friend called me up and told me he wanted to help me change this thermostat.

When I get to this house, he snapped off the bolts. The job involved taking off the intake and getting another one because it was so corroded. I guess the PO was just using regular tap water and overtime it just ate the intake alive.

fortunately, life takes care of people who fill with water - it freezes then they don't drive (which explains why I'm still fixing a friend's 96 pickup)....

Scott, i feel your pain about the anti-freeze... I've gotten to the point where I figure a little dribble is just fine... even my 455, which I did nothing to other the connect rubber hoses now leaks ???
