I know that there are a few on this site that run the 1 mile events at Maxton and Texas. I am new to this type of racing(been to Maxton once last year) I am trying to get an idea what kinds of tire pressures you have been running. I ran my street tires last year at the max. recommended pressures. I am running Goodyear frontrunners, 25x4.5x15 in the front and BF Goodrich 235/60x15 steel belted drag radials in the rear. My car weighs 3050, 1580 front, 1470 rear. Any input would be much appreciated. John

With my 275/40/17 fronts I ran 30psi and my 335/30/18 rears I ran 26psi. But those are my typical street tire presures. The guys with the front runners (skinnies) and Nascar rears are running in the 40-50psi range I think?? -

I run the fronts at the max pressure. The rears you'll have to play with. It just depends on how much heat you get during a pass. The camaro gains about 7-8 psi during a run so we start off lower then most.Comment

I ran the Mustang with 45 all around and I guess it worked OK - Yokohama street tires front, BFG Drag Radials rear. So I have been running the Camaro the same way. If I start going fast, I'll probably start messing with tire pressures to see if I gain anything. I have the Drag Radials on the rear of the Camaro now, so this will be a new sensation - hopefully, more HP, more tire is my theory.

Just guessing here, since I have no LSR experience, but wouldn't you shoot for the maximum pressure that didn't give you spooky handling, and / or go over max. tire pressure when hot, for less rolling resistance?

This really comes down to traction. Do you want it? How long would you like to have traction for? The higher your pressure at maxton the less traction you are going to have. Unless you over come the slick surface with WEIGHT.
This one guy at maxton (DF) suggested that we run the camaro with 55psi all the way around. This would work great if the car weighed 4000lbs, but it did not at the time. So bassically when the right foot went down the back end went to the left then back to the right then back to the left.....get the point!!!!!lol

Mike, I've read a few threads elsewhere about the importance of traction at a paved event, or lack thereof, and how it could or not effect your top speed. Right now my main concern would be stability, I have not driven a car with drag radials at the speeds I intend to go this year and need to get the "feel" down. The car was stable last year on street tires(goodrich t/a kd 315-35rear 42psi) but I had to roll into the throttle through 1st and 2nd, not alot of traction. From what I've read I will probably start at 32psi in the rear and 40 in the front and go from there.

Thats a good starting point on the rear and the front is perfect. You most likly wont be able to tell the difference between the dr and the street radial as far as stability. In my Mustang even with the dr's it spun in 1st gear but definatly did not spin in 2nd gear like it did on the street tires. That car made 325rwhp and 350rwtrq. the pressure started at 31psi and finished at 33psi. Just be sure to check it at the end of each run you will be able to see the traction lose on the gain in pressure you just want to make sure it doesnt get close to the max pressure listed on the side wall.
