Re: where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?
yea, the smooth ends on them.. I will go by my buddies shop in the morning and try to get some pics or a part number but IIRC he said they don't make them anymore.
BUT myself, those heads look perfect!! (size wise at least)
Re: where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?
If you're going to stick with SBC based engines for many years - I think you'll be really happy with iron eagles.
A friend had a version of these on a 351W and was very very happy with them, he had a very basic combo but it ran fast and consistant - many guys couldn't believe how fast it was with such a basic set up.... I'm sure the heads were a big part of that.
As much as it costs to have good quality head work done on old castings, it really makes sense to go all new - and I don't think you can loose with Dart quality.
I know it sucks to spend more than you were originally intending to - but as far as engines go - I don't think you can loose investing in better heads.

Jim
good point - I didn't look at the end of the head in the summit pick - it is the "flat slab" that he was originally trying to stay away from.... dangit.
Re: where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?
Do you have any circle track guys in your neck of the woods? There's gotta be a ton of flowed iron heads out there from reputable shops. If you can't find what you're looking for new, racingjunk.com or one of the other classified sites prolly have something.

Re: where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?
these are not the best pics, taken with a cell phone.
runners may be large for you @ 215cc and the springs are for a roller. He said they have one bent exhaust valve (looks fine by eye but it was marked with a sharpie)...... he wants $400 for them, if you're interested PM me and i'll send his phone number to you.
Re: where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?
Honestly these heads were probably too big anyways with the 215cc runners and 1.55" roller springs, while you paid more and didn't get the right ends the new heads with the correct size runners will run a lot better, plus I forgot to ask the combustion chamber size on these and looking at the pic they look like the 49cc version.... so the compression would have been to high if that's the case.
You did the best thing getting the 180cc runners
Re: where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?
Okay, I might sound like a total hack here but what about slicing off the faces of some old iron SBC heads and then epoxying them on to modern flat-sided heads (iron or alu.)? The ends could be blended in with more epoxy and then once painted, it should look the part, no?
I also don't like the flat face on aftermarket heads in general, to me it always looks a little boring and out of place.
