where to get non vortec small block chevy cast iron heads?

Looking to get factory looking non vortec cast iron heads. all the aftermarket heads seem to have the from of the head as a smooth pad. I'm looking for factory lookin heads, with ruff cast iron finish. Anyone know of a place to get them?? Looking to spend a max of say $1,000 total.
    Thanks.

lotsa time with a die grinder?

Not surprising that they don't make new heads with the old style ends any more. Might look on epay for some old used aftermarket heads.

Me, I'd just get some old stock heads that I have laying around and do some mild porting and run them.

my ffiend has a set of dart (or world) "cheater" heads he was talking about selling the other day. I took a quick look at them, look just like a 305 head on the outside, if you're interested I can get a price or find out more about them then you can see if you can find a new set. They were used on a dirt track car so the springs are pretty stout looking, maybe 1.55"s, I can check the guides but i could check the seats for leaking if you're interested. probably 200 runners by the looks of them.
if nothing else it's a lead on who used to make them

Joe, i'll keep that in mind, thank you.

Min301, I don't want vortecs cause they are center bolt. I don't want adapters. Looking for an older stock look. trying to keep a 1962 period with the car.

I know i'm limiting my options, but i'll find something.

What kind of bolt patterns / ends do the dart Iron heads have?

world products run both valve covers
don't forget the goofy 8 intake bolts - straight down -on the vortech
all the hamb types should get world or dart to make a pre 69 smoothy head

WAS thinkin about the top head for $400 pr.

i'd go with their iron eagles, but i want smaller than a 72cc chamber to bring up the compression.

keep in mind i just bought this cam:

                    hmmmm

I think for the little bit of money difference - you'd be better off with the iron eagles and at $50 more - go with the 2.02 valves.

Even with a relatively mild cam and compression - good heads make a huge difference.

Swapping the twisted wedge heads onto my 5.0 stock short block was a very noticeable difference - with a stock cam.

So you think the cam will be ok with just 8.5 compression? that was my main concern on getting the smaller cc heads.

You need one of the chevy guys to weigh in on this one.

8.5 compression is certainly not ideal, however, - how much could that be helped with some thin head gaskets?

What I'm asking you to consider before buying is that sacrificing flow for compression may not be the optimal choice.

We need a seasoned SBC person to weigh in on this...

I could always call and see if i could get the eagles in a smaller chamber, but that would be to easy.

John is right...you need more compression, as well as flow. The $399 pair look to be just a stock/replacement type head. IMO, with that cam, you need 9.5 to 10:1 CR.....Iron Eagles with a smaller chamber...you'll be happier.
