**The Official** Why I am not going on Power Tour this year....thread...

Because I worked on the wrong car instead of working on my Power Tour project. By the time I got started, it was way too late. My new engine was just dynoed last week, and my transmission guy just called me last night that my trans is ready. I got so much stuff to do, that there is no way in heck that we are going to be done.

    But next year...IT'S ON!!!!....... :D

Yeah, distance is another issue. I live at the farthest most tip of South Texas. Right before you cross into Mexico. It would take me one day just to get out of Texas. Then another day to get to Illinois. But, not making excuses. Next year, we will make the drive no matter what. We picked up another project and plan to have it ready for Power Tour 2011. To go along with our Malibu Wagon.

Now don't take this the wrong way... but just do it. Several years ago it started in San Bernadino, CA and went to Panama Beach, FL. We did it starting in Minneapolis, MN. The overall trip was over 5,500 miles... so it just depends on how bad you do want to go, and if you can afford to do it. It'll be funnnnnnnnn.

I "just didi it" from the kick off through the third day of every tour that left from California, and would continue to do so today-or head out and meet it coming in from 3 days away. Owning my own business and raising a nine year old in one of the most expensive places to live in the U. S. makes it impossible for me. Having done it and knowing what a great time it is makes it that much harder to watch from a great distance while the organizers never come west year after year.....

Scott, we totally know where you are coming from. I hate that the PT stays east year after year, that's prevented us from only doing 3 long hauls. We've struggled with jobs and the economy also, so the words of reason have replaced fun and burnouts for us. Keep your chin up and shoot for next year, bring the 9 year old along!

I don't know this "for sure" but did hear a story several years ago, and it does make sense. I believe it was just after the LA to FL PT that even had a "rest day" in Memphis, so the tour was 8 days plus. I heard many of the sponsors said they just couldn't afford or find workers to do 12+ days of straight work. You figure 1.5 -2 days of travel to get to a west coast start, then 8 days of massive tour travel, then another 1.5 - 2 days traveling to return to ? it boils down to needing people about 2 weeks (from very start of loading a display/truck to the unloading it at the end - or leaving their business until returning to their buiness). What I was told was many sponsors wanted a shorter travel tour, and keep it in the middle states. I think it's pretty much been like that ever since, as PT needs the sponsors to do it....

This makes good sense because most of the sponsors are located in the midwest. Also doing the tour on either coast makes it extreme for the other coast. Several people have made the statement that maybe HR should go back to the 2 tour setup, one east and one west. Hard to put on an event that pleases everyone. Usually only a 12-14 hr drive for us to get to the starting city and home from the ending. Love the tour and has been our annual vacation since we first discovered it! Making 5th long haul this year, with several other short haul years.
