    safety cutoff for fuel pump

need to figure a way to put a safety cut for an electric fuel pump on my 83 El camino. you never know when you would need one like an accident or roll over, God forbid. What would i need and how would I wire it in. I know that I could put a oil pressure sensor on but where it would connect I have clearance problems with a t-fitting. any help is appreciated.

Most are wired into an Oil pressure switch, engine stops, fuel stops. T-fitting on where your oil pressure sensor goes. I think you have to wire it also some how through the R? terminal on the starter to allow the fuel pump to pump while cranking.
    Escaped on a technicality.

That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea. I would have said wire it with a battery kill switch, which would cut all power to the car. But the pump woud potentially continue to run until somebody turned the switch. I guess the oil pressure idea could be along the same lines as a nitrous kill switch using a fuel pressure switch.

I think the oil pressure switch is insisted upon in the directions that come with a universal electric fuel pump.

Buick T-types came factory wired with this setup. Its common thing to bypass though with the upgrades to the wiring for the fuel pump voltage.

Assuming you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, you could T the oil pressure cut off switch at the gauge. This will help keep the engine compartment uncluttered too!

Go find a mid 80's Ford in the yard and get the impact switch out of the trunk. Last one I got was $1. It's black with a big red button, uses two small thin spade connectors. Mine is fixed to the back of the trunk - no problem in the race car under normal use, shuts off the pump if the bumper gets whacked good.

I was about to suggest the Ford inertia switch, very simple and cheap

And you can use both in series. If either thing is tripped, the pump will quit. I've never actually tried this, but it seems like a good idea.
