My kids dog got run over by a truck from his tail to his head. Had a tire mark along his back. I was deciding whether to spend the $1500 dollar on surgery with no expectations on if he would make it or not. The thing I remember the doctor saying was " If this was a person we wouldn't be having this decisions". Glad to say I spent the money and he lived through it.

Dan, I got my first dog 8 years ago when I turned 50... I can't imagine my dog Shylo not being there....

I had a old Lab with bad joints, who just got sick. We put him down a few years ago. His name was Beau. I still miss him. HANG IN THERE!

Thanks to all for the kind thoughts and good wishes. For now the Lasix seems to allow him to be comfortable and he's not having those racking coughs much anymore. As long as he's comfortable we'll keep him around but we'd never leave him to suffer. I agree that humans should have the ability to choose an compassionate exit when the time comes like we do for our animal friends.
