My rules ;D And I've given little thought to this.
Any naturally aspirated engine the OEM's put in a car and can sell 500-5,000 (I'm inclined for more, but CAFE standards make less). Heads must be OEM pieces, but can be massaged, ports in OE places.
A caged unibodied car (with most Speedzter's mods), car can be lowered, but the suspension must bolt to OE points and can be braced (per Speezter's description)
Fuel cell allowed in trunk with sealed battery (battery can be same as currently used in NASCAR)
        Interior gutted.
Tires, give a maximum tubbing rule (1-2" wider than stock?).
Minimal additional aero accessories outside the OEM design. If the factory put a spoiler on the car, they can use one.
Gut the interior, I don't care if it has an OE dash, etc. It's still a race car, anyone can pull a dash, build cage inside accordingly for safety, it can have a Top Fuel cockpit for all I care.
If the car is FWD, it has to race FWD.
        Cooling system upgrades are allowed.

I would like to see it where the cars are ones I could see on the streets and reconize on the track, engines I can buy and drivers that actually have to man handle the car around the track because of bad aero and tires.
        Escaped on a technicality.

Antique carbs . . . brain damage-causing leaded gasoline . . . hideous non-production COT bodies . . . no aero crutches to keep the metrosexual Californians stuck to the track . . . no brand identification beyond stickers. I don't see dead people as much as empty seats, blank side panels, and factory pull-outs.

Of course Davy Crockett and those that stuck with him DID get killed at the Alamo . . . :o

            Good thoughts, SilverBu!

500 units is probably not enough to keep out factory "cheater" cars. I've also got concerns about the NASCAR battery location because it would require substantial modifications to production cars, notwithstanding its beneficial effects on handling.

Given the lack of visibility caused by the maze of seat extensions and cage parts, elimination of radio-linked spotters would reduce safety. Moreover, fans love scanners because it lets them feel like a part of their favorite team.

in the early days of spotters [1986 orb 87 ] , the teams had to buy seats in the grandstands
a spotter from the wood brothers was sitting next to us at dover -best seats in the house
he had to leave half way through the race
the teasing and spilled beer were relentless , my friend chris is borderline psychotic when it comes to ford hating
