    Re: Friday VA Hospital visit

I have a message in to Bill so will talk to him today. This facility is in Marshalltown so about a 30 mile trip from Newton. I think you can get the flags at Walmart, Target, or a dollar store but hopefully they would be on the shelves in time.

This is all I can do right now, so more later tonight.

BTW, thanks to our own freak moderator Steve for making this a sticky!! :-*

Good response from all of you so far. If those that are going can tell all their friends that are going to come along and pay a small tribute to the veterans we can have a great response!

How about some actual fund raising ideas ? For their programs mentioned earlier.
        Donation Box ?
Get a local VFW (or someone similar) to run a Brat and refreshment stand with profits going into kitty.
Sell some sort of T-Shirt or magents like Hot Rodders - Supporting the Troops
        Ideas ?

If it's not already, put it up on the Hot Rod Forum and get that side interested.Put a few words on every thread and let the word get out there on it's own..People will talk and before we know it the place will be packed...

Good idea Rett, i have posted on the PT hot rod forum. Dont know if you saw the post about Joe and i leaving and making a short detour over to Moab, Utah. Rather than pushing 1200 miles in a day which was a killer, we will be making a half way stop in Moab and taking in Arches National Park and touring Castle Valley, staying at the Red Cliffs Lodge on the Colorado River. Ck out www.RedCliffsLodge.com for info on the place. We had talked about caravaning out from So. Cal so hope you can make it.

              Re: Friday VA Hospital visit

I did talk to Bill this afternoon and they are totally stoked that we would take time to come out! :D I mentioned the possibility of 100 cars and he kind of got quiet. They are doing construction at the sight and it would be difficult to park too many more than 50-60 cars.

Bill gave me a list of items we can bring for the Veterans:
              paperback books
              games-checkers, board games, etc.
              Wii games
              t-shirts
              sweatshirts
              sweaters
              baseball caps

I'm going to try to get reservations tonight in Newton arriving Thursday the 3rd. Thanks again to all of you. I'll ask in May for a firmer head count.

It looks like 890 miles from Moab to Omaha you guys are welcome to crash at my house or get a motel nearby Thursday night, then it's 180 miles to Newton for Friday morning. We coul BBQ, drink beer, and wash cars Thursday night. I'll probably be up at the crack of dawn Friday ready for Freddy. Just a suggestion to break up your trip but I knew you might stop in Denver area too.

Dad and wont be there Friday night. :'( I am flying and meeting him in Omaha on Friday night while he drives from Denver (neither of us can get off on Thursday) but we will be there somewhat early on Saturday. Hope Friday works out well for all of you. Maybe some year we will make it there for the Friday shin-dig

Phil and Doug,Because I have no reservations yet,I'm up in the air..But Phil I have no problem doing 800-900 miles in a day.I drove that pulling a trailer from Ohio to California. But I just may come back and take you up on the offer.I will have to look at miles and days to see what fits..Will it be warm by then???? I'm not good with cold..And the rates at Moab were over $200 a night as far as I could see....Unless that includes drinks and a lady,I need to find a Motel 5,that's cheaper then the 6..

Would it also be appropriate to make a statement on the Hot Rod Power Tour Facebook page? I could do this but I dont want to overstep anyone.
Sounds like a great time, looking forward to June!!

C'mon down - that time of year is usually nice, the humidity is decent and the bugs haven't grown up yet either. We get 3-4 nice days a year, a couple in the spring and a couple in the fall !!

Hey Rett, Moab has plenty of cheap hotels so that is not a problem. Yes its plenty warm by then. dont give up on the event and the rooms, a friend of mine has rooms at all the hotels we are staying at but she may cancel and not go. if you want the numbers/names of the hotels we are staying at shoot me a pm or call at 909-855-1308
