Made a fast trip to Clarinda Iowa and back .. Business related , wow..you have lots of snow :o
I graduated HS from Clarinda. I live 8 miles east of there currently. If you can answer, what kind of business were you doing? You can pm me if you dont want it over the forum.
There were several I used to see in the Michigan area back in the day. Seems like most were 4 doors but maybe that's because my buddy Norm's friend Brendan had a moredoor so I saw that one fairly often. Quite a bit of Pontiac Engineering staff was still headquartered in Pontiac and Warren then so you would see quite a few if you drove in that area. Few 4 speed cars, though. Seems like a lot of 'em were black with either orange or blue decals or white like the one in the photo.

Ive never seen a Can Am other than white 2 doors. As far as I can tell so far, GM only made them with the turbo 400 auto.
I did own a 1973 Chevelle 4 door with the Laguna package however. Bought it from the GM employee who had it since new. Unusual vehicle right there.
all are 2 doors..
all 400 pontiacs/autos
and all white..
the low # of them are because the mold for the deck spoiler broke..
I've read in California some cars received the 403 Oldsmobile motor? The decals on the shaker hood said '6.6 liter' as opposed to the Pointiac 400 cars that said 'T/A 6.6'. Have you heard this as well?
Looks like 1377 or so were produced. Word is there are only a few hundred remaining? I'm just getting up to speed on these.
Brendan's was definitely a Can-Am, definitely a 4 door and definitely black. What I don't know is the year. Not sure where you got your info. If I could track down my old friend Dan Hardin I could get more info as he was an engineer for Pontiac at that time (later came to EPA).

Was it a company mule or purchased of the showroom floor? There have been hundreds of one-off mules running around the Detroit area for decades :D
Pretty sure he bought it outright but our friend Norm may have set him up with the purchase. He was an engineer for Fisher Body. I should call Norm and get his input - he was around the PG in those days.
