Just a humble student here , man I'm very impressed with all of you guys stuff. For my first one i'm planning to start with a jegs big tube 8-point kit and add to it as need be for lsr and maybe someday some open road events. Alos I really liked the 2 side bars in the c-5 makes me think I should strart with a 4-point kit!

From what I have seen pre bent kits kit like crap. if you can i would try and find somebody in your area that could bend you up a kit for your car. Every car is different and every persons is different. trust me it would be worth the investment.

prolly right I do want it as close to the roof as possible. actually close enough to use punch plates as much as possible.The BOMB looks awesome w/them .

dont use the prebent cages. trust me they do not fit good at all.

I'm fairly happy with my S&W kit in the Camaro. Green Junk has the same kit in his "Time Bomb" Camaro, and he's the one who recommended it to me. It's not as nice as a custom cage, but not bad for the money. The down side is the non-existent instructions - not even a pic of a completed installation or a list of which bars go where. I made a major screw-up and used my door bars for the rear bars, but it worked out OK. If I didn't need the seat so darn close (almost no legs here), access would have been better. Between the bars and the Kirkey race seat, there's not much room to get in and out. I'll get a removable steering wheel before race season!

If they are, is anyone annealing the welds?
What kind of filler rod are you using on those punchplates?

Is it a complete trial and error process? I wonder if I could mock a cage up with PVC pipe or something then take that to a tube bender. Anyone know of any techniques like that?

The Dodge Viper cage and the funny car cage are both 4130. as for annealing the welds. No theres no way that i know of to get them to a controlled temp. with out doing more damage then good. as for rod i use ER70S-2 wall my cages are tig welded.
