powerstroke superduties have electric vac pumps for the auto hubs and hvac vacuum..... I wonder how those would work?

i don't have a good feel for how much volume we're really talking here - surely a little 12v vac pump wouldn't keep up with a big block at full song.

Maybe not, just for reference he had it on a 500 cadillac that was pretty stout. Took a 4500# car into the low 10s before he sold it, so it was making some oats.

Yes. It was a piece of cake. Tap out a roll pin, remove square tip blocker pin, pull out manual valve, insert other manual valve, insert rounded nose pin, insert spring, tap roll pin back.

Not that I ever really wanted to be, but I'm getting pretty darn good at removing and replacing the valve body in a Ford C6 transmission.

Don't know about scrunchies guys, but those terrycloth athletic wristbands are used quite often on breathers.

I do still have the electric evac setup. In fact, I grabbed it yesterday out of the storage unit. It was controlled by my megasquirt to turn on under certain conditions.

they work like crap at 240k miles. That's how they work. And, when it goes, so do your brakes. And Power Steering. They use a press on p/s style pulley so you can't get one bolt out without pulling the pulley, and that pulley is for a 3000 RPM redline. Not BBR BBF friendly to my way of thinking.

Sorry James, coming up on 100 pages, we had to derail it into Scrunchies and belt driven diesel suck devices. I know what a scrunchy is. It's useful in guiding women through the mall. Whoooooah there baby. I keep at least one on the shifter in the 'vert.

To clarify - I was speaking of the super duty 12v electric vac pumps.... those trucks have power steering pump powered brakes (hydroboost) so the electric vac pump only runs the hvac and auto front hubs, probably not in the volume league required here.

my '97 had a belt driven vac pump fail, on my friend, in the middle of the night, on his way to Kentucky... not good!

Put it on the ground and filled it with fluid. All the gears are in the right places, no funny business, and it moves backwards and forward in all 3 gears. I did not have time to drive it around at lunch. I do have to run a errand later and will swing by and get it for a test drive.

Just took a buddy for a little spin down the access road. Yowza. That was fun.

Thankfully, nothing leaked, puked, or did anything weird. 3rd hit nice and solid. Objects outside got blurry in a hurry. I can't wait to make a pass in it. The 3rd gear pull is friggin' gnarly.

Wheeew. Adrenaline is definitely still pumping.
