A few years ago we had the chance to run an A-B-A chassis dyno test of the K&N filter top on my 16" diameter filter when I was running a carb on the 580" motor I had in '06. It made no differance at all with the hood down vs the solid chrome steel top. This was the Mustang dyno at Spectre when Scott and Chad worked there at the time. BTW hood up or down the car made best power with the filter in place. Later at the drag strip we learned that a full carb isolator plate was worth .2 seconds in warm to hot weather even though it made almost no differnce on the chassis dyno.Originally posted by Scott Liggett View PostI dont see why you are not running a K&N filter lid under that scoop.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

I don't know Beagle, but I imagine if those gears were a problem, it would be all over the interwebz.
I decided my transfer slot jet was too big as it is showing very rich 12:1 at slow speeds (2000 rpm) but mid 14's at cruise highway speeds (3000). Idle mixture screws were at 1.75 turns out, any more and idle quality diminished. I decided to drop the TS jets from 0.055" to 0.052".
I had previously been chasing a number in regards to idle AFR, roughly 14.5:1. Idle was ok, but not great.
Yesterday, with the vacuum gauge hooked up, and the engine all warmed up, I was able to turn all 4 idle mixture screws in 1/4 turn. The idle was much smoother, vacuum higher, but the AFR was like 16.5:1.
I'm getting the feeling that the idle AFR is kind of a 'give it what it wants' type thing. For the record, the same thing was true with the 950 I used to have on this engine. The idle afr always indicated way lean, but it would idle all day long and not overheat.
Drove it back to work today after lunch and came darn close to running out of gas. lol In the little time I drove it (it's not far from my house to my office) it looked like I am headed in the right direction as far as leaning out the cruise afr's.Last edited by BBR; May 23, 2013, 11:04 AM.Life is short. My blower motor likes idle afr around 10-12. and I haven't been able to get cruise to 14 and still have it respond well off idle.My fabulous web page
