Whats the best way to uncrap a carbon-choked motor?

So, rumor has it the Buick/Olds 307 is a dog. After test driving the dang POS LeSabre, I'll hafta agree.

I think this beeeatch needs a tune up, (duh) but I'm not sure plugs, wires, cap & rotor will cut it.

It has 175K on the clock, so theres gotta be a ton of crud in the intake, and around the intake valves.

How do I clean that crap out? Oven cleaner down the intake?

I just want to tune it up & resell it.

I may get thrown off the site for this but - it works.

    Carbon comes off with water.

Start it, warm it up, pull the air cleaner lid off, hold the RPM about 2000 or so, then with distilled water in a spray bottle, mist water slowly into the carb throat, don't turn the garden hose on it - just mist water in there..... the carbon build up will be cleaned up by the high humidity air flowing through the chambers.

You could also add a healthy dose of marvel mystery oil to the fuel tank.... I swear it's the only snake oil that actually works!

What are you talking about? I warm the engine up and drown it. Especially Olds 307's and Chevy 305's. Done a couple of them. It works well on the combustion chambers, but I'm not so sure about the intake runners and back of the valves. I think that takes some chemical inducing to break up. Of course I don't have any reasoning or proof to back that up, I just don't think humid air alone can break the carbon loose, I think it takes some heat and violence.

haha. we use to call the small shot on my buddy's car "injector cleaner". every time it would thro an o'2 code, he would spray it thru the gears reving hard and the check engine light would go off, every damn time. it was funny. we laughed alot about it. we had the "street race jets" the "track jets" and the "injector cleaners"(75 shot) LOL

    Use what the professionals use.

    BG ISC? Induction System Cleaner?
BG ISC? Induction System Cleaner? will quickly and safely clean fuel injectors and remove hard, baked-on carbon deposits from intake ports, intake valves and combustion chamber. It is designed to be used with the BG 9210 Inject-A-Flush? Apparatus. For complete cleanup, BG ISC? should be used in conjunction with BG 44K,? Part No. 208, added to the vehicle fuel tank at time of service. BG ISC? will not harm gaskets, seals, hoses or any component in the fuel system if recommended cleaning procedure is followed. Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor safe.
Part No. 211 11 oz. (325 mL) can
But then you will need one of these.

    BG 9210 Inject-A-Flush? Apparatus
The BG 9210 Inject-A-Flush? Apparatus provides a highly effective ?on engine? cleaning of the entire fuel system. The BG 9210 is pressurized by shop air. It is designed to be used with BG Fuel Injection System Cleaner, Part No. 210, and BG Air Intake System Cleaner, Part No. 206.
    Part No. 9210LBC
    Part No. 9210
Or you could just add this to your tank, but if the motor has a lot of miles on it you should run the above stuff first.

    BG 44K? Power Enhancer?
BG 44K? Power Enhancer? safely, rapidly and thoroughly removes engine deposits in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, ports and on valves. It restores flow in fuel injectors and cleans the entire fuel system. BG 44K? Power Enhancer? improves fuel economy and reduces exhaust emissions. It restores that ?like new? driveability to an engine?s performance and keeps it running better, longer and more efficiently. Add one can or bottle to fuel tank at fill up. Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor safe. NOTE: After cleanup with BG 44K? Power Enhancer,? regular use of BG Supercharge?II, Part No. 202, in gasoline engines or BG Diesel Fuel Conditioner with DPL, Part No. 2276, in diesel engines will prevent deposits from forming in the fuel system and upper engine for maximum driveability and fuel economy.
    Part No. 208
Part No. 208A 11 oz. (325 mL) can
    11 oz. (325 mL) bottle

    Water works.
You ever take an engine apart that has a blown head gasket?
You can find the leak by the cleanest piston.
Bad thing about cleaning alot of carbon is it likes to get stuck between a valve and its seat.
I would hold at a fast idle and trickle water down the carb but don't let it stop the engine, do it until your happy.
    Then use the seafoam.

the owner of my dealer thought the same thing , I was flushing that 307 caddy with top engine cleaner
I said JOE THE ENGINE IS A PIG - much performance found with losing the pellet convertor , but a 305 would knock and ping its way past a 307 olds , oh yeah - 4 turns up on the mc solenoid screw too , so it would lose the lean setting
    no laptop necessary
