DYNO VIDEO! Gary Hart's 53 Studebaker LSR

We dyno'd Gary Hart's Studebaker this past Monday at our local Mustang dyno shop here in Omaha. We've had problems with valve guides coming loose and hanging valves open, but we believe the problem is solved after many long, hard pulls on the loadbearing dyno.

Kyle from 1320video.com made a cool video - check it out!

    Cool stuff, Scott!!

What gear do you run this in. I'm thinking that you don't want to run the Mustang up to 200 mph or more. Our single roll 48" Horibas were designed for like 125 or something, and they did some special stuff to get that out of them - I'm sure that there was some significant safety margin, though.

If you tune mine, will it go 200+, or do I have to buy more parts?

Dan, the mustang dynos with the big rollers like this one, can record up to 250mph, and are "blessed" to 300mph wheel speed, so long as the car is up to it. We made pulls in fourth gear but without the overdrive enabled, this took us to just over 200mph on the dyno.

I have turned off a dynojet in 3rd gear at 200mph, it sucked cause i know thats the best pull and it doesn't record anything.

Great Video, I noticed Gary had the bonneville tires on the car, I had no idea that tire slippage would not be a problem on the chassis dyno, not a lot of rubber back there, especially at those power levels, really cool!

OK OK there geek I finally got the computer to load the video so how much power are they really trying to make with that thing. I'm aware of how much power those powerstroke turbos can crank out. Lets get some real numbers here.... lol You can pm me them if you want... Also may want to have that alternator shored up a little bit. It was looking a little wobbly to me... almost like something I put together I love turbos (thinks to himself) yeah I really love turbos

Agree on the alternator, it was a last minute "oops, we need a more powerful alternator" thing.

Lol. The "real" power, well, we've run it to 20psi before and that works out to something like 1200hp+ at the crank. But after two years of going out there and hurting engines and spinning tires, we found what number keeps the engine happy for a week's worth of runs, plus gets him the red hat. He needs to be somewhere around a 245mph average... this should do the trick!

leave it to dave m to wonder about the absolute limits :D

Sounds like Gary's had some good advice along the way..... Ya gotta put 2 runs together to get the "Red Hat", right Keith.......
Sorta fast on a Sunday.... or somthin like that.... ;)
