I've been tinkering with the tach some more. It seems the tell tale needle is pretty sticky, if I hold the reset button I can get it to move almost like it should. I put a tie wrap around the tach to hold the button in for now, I'll drive it around some more and see how I like it. I have both tachs in the car right now, the jones in front of the autometer, and I can see most of both dials. Strange.
I swapped out the gears today, took a little over an hour to change the third member. I also noticed some drips near the trans....and discovered I forgot to tighten the pan bolts! two of them were missing. ugh.
I scored a pair of chrome steel slot wheels! I think they're 15x8, haven't had a chance to clean them up and measure yet. With some old Kelly Super Charger N50-15 tires.
I was poking around and found a pair of original chrome valve covers off a 396. They're in so-so condition...but they look like they might not leak after beating on the flanges for a while, and the chrome mostly cleaned up with steel wool. I tried one on for size, the easy side, and it fits. I guess I'll do the hard side next. I might pull the heater out too, while I'm in there. And swap the ignition coil, I also found one of the old Mallory square ones.
I'm also going to see about getting a flexible upper radiator hose. And I might order a pair of blower pulleys if I sell enough crap on ebay to pay for them. I think I'll get some 275/60 15 drag radials, to put on the chrome slot "Astro" wheels. Then I won't have to deal with changing tires at the track, and I won't have to endure the exciting handling that the slicks give over 100 mph
