put 220 or what ever is that over there at all four corners of the garage.. you'll thank ourself later..
You mean 415V or 3 phase? (240V is our regular single phase voltage)
I did consider it for the 2-post hoist, but the costs of bringing in 3 phase off the street and having a new fuse and meter box, plus the additional cabling was in the $3-4K range.
It's much cheaper to buy a single phase hoist or even better to convert a near new used hoist.
The garage will be all 240V/15Amp with the hoist requiring 20Amp.
Them damn things is heavy....helped a buddy cut one down and load it...the
things are so damn full of water....back breaking
work.....that stump looks like a monster
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

Simple solution, just buy an American made hoist that runs on 220v, then Steve can just plug it right in to his normal house hold socket. ;)
240 is reg currant overthere..
no paperclip in the socket for the kids overthere.. :-\
Same as the UK and I'm sure many other places..
I'd say our power is the same, except we have a higher voltage but lower amperage..
How many amps do you typically have there for household stuff? We typically have 10amps for everything and 15amps for heavy duty things like my welder and air compressor.

220 welder 50 amp breaker (uses 30 peak 45)
normal house stuff 15 amp(110volt)
microwave 20(110)
fridge 20(110)
dryer 30 (220)
hot tub 40 (220)
compressor 40 (220)
heat lamps for painting 20-30 (110)
surround sound at full (all rooms on, but not loud 25(110)
""""""""""""""""' at party/cook out/bbq/etc 50(110)
plasma 30 peak (110)
This is officially the heaviest thing my crane has ever lifted. (Well, it's had more weight on it trying to pull huge tree stumps out), but for the most weight dangling from the hook.. This is it. ;D
I would have to have a guess at 1000lbs.
Look at the crane flex! :D
Now I gotta tow the bastard! :P
Sorry, out of focus (It's night time and the camera was having a little trouble.)
Not sure how many could handle a tree that size, but around here, if you want a palm tree gone, there are people who will dig it up and haul it away so they can sell it and install somewhere else.
Usually cheaper than hiring a tree service to simply cut it down, and you get to feel good about "saving" the tree.
Also, that tree looked like it was close to your property line... we aren't allowed to build or install a shed or garage within 5 or 8 feet of our property lines. Silly rules.
There wasn't anyone who wanted the tree unfortunately, so the transplanting idea didn't happen.
And being on the property-line was one of the problems too.. Neighbor's driveway was ruined because of it..
