Thread: 302 chevy

    302 chevy

    i found a 302 chevy that supposedly makes 500hp.

these are the specs on it:

The heads are alum D port heads, 60cc chambers with big valves. its got alum 1.6 ratio roller rockers. cam is a comp nastalgia cam, 298duration, 525ish lift with the rockers, was like a 2200-6900RPM cam. new valve springs keepers all that. Got headers that are wrapped up, alum weiland single plane high rise intake, 1 or 2 inch alum spacer plate and a 4bbl eldelbrock carb.

i know theyre not very specific but does it sound possible?

    the guy said this setup on a 350 in a 79 malibu ran a 6.8 1/8th mile

It's hard to say... but not likely... My 500hp ish 302 is fairly trick... spins 8200rpm to get right around that number and the pistons are fairly knotty... at 12.7 to 1... and the cam's got a bit more lift with .630"

( this is the cast iron motor )...

That's super vague and super bench-racer. But, no, it likely does not make 500.

    Re: 302 chevy

1.65 HP per cubic inch is possible but takes some serious work to get there. Not likely with a Nostalgia flat tappet cam. I'm not liking the intake and carb either.

I think its funny that used race motors all make even horsepower. 500 or 600 or 1000.

That being said, if it is an original 302 (as in a Camaro Z28 motor) it is worth some serious money.

I agree with the other guys. 500hp out of a N/A 302 seems a bit of a stretch... particularly with the cam you describe. To get near 500hp, you'd need to buzz the thing to the moon and I don't believe you have enough cam for that.

Can it be done? Yup, but you'd need some trick stuff.
    Nitrous, baby!!...
