    What is the point of using a Dana 60 rear?

    okay, in a modern world where you can get 35-spline stuff for a Ford 9", and 35-spline stuff for Dana 44s (same approx weight as a 12-bolt, and built to custom specs by tons of places)...

    Why would anyone wanna put a behemoth like a Dana 60 in any type of car that needs to accelerate?

    If you're building a good old car....you need a good old rearend. An Olds or Pontiac rear from the early 60s would be great instead

    You don't need fancy/expensive aftermarket stuff to make them last.

    Jeff Smith did a huge article on the 9 vs the 60 vs the 12 bolt for CC a while back. Awesome reading. They're not as heavy as everyone thought and I think the 60 sapped less power than the 9 which is harder to turn.

    For the money, I'm thinking the 8.8 with 9" ends and 31 spline axles is the way to go for CHEAP. Not sure how heavy they are though.

    the 60 is 13lb heavier than an nog iron ford 9"
    now add the bigger axles/etc to the 9" and it's a wash..
    the 9" is king. cause you can have two pumpkins..
    one for the track and one for the street..
    a spool and a diff.. with same or different gears..
    the 60 was in trucks.. and
    have high gears= cheap

    Gary Rohe (remember him?) was going 8's 13 years ago, with a 8.8 and 4 lug axles.

    al ackerman goes 7 s with a 4 cyl chevy and a toyota truck rear [modded]
    12 bolts used to be popular in hurst hemicars for the low drag

    Boat anchor. How many teeth does a Dana 60 have on a 5.13 pinion?

    The high end stuff can be very tricky like a drop in 12 bolt to a nine inch housing, most guys are more off in the tune and can pick up the 15 hp the rear end will save them there.

    I like a 9 inch because they are easy to work on, parts every where, dont break when built with the right stuff, lots of gears to pick from........ not many things I can list in a Dana's side of things
