well, I made my goal of having the car back on the road before the anniversary of my brother's death (the car and he died the same day).... it's exactly like he wanted to build (I got the original buick and motor from him)....

        Next project?

nope (unless I finish it before the Camaro gets here).... IROC camaro for racing.... pictures to follow

Glad to see you got the car put back together. Bet you can't wait to get it out on the road and get into the loud pedal, huh? Oh, and great shop, dog, and car.

Although, I need to shorten the driveshaft > Maybe I'll simply do the swap of the 400/gear vendors overdrive rather then shorten the driveshaft twice.

now getting to the final touches... for this round
                      Intake installed

New radiator installed - went with mech fan - but have the others for down the road

somewhere, someone mentioned specific years of intakes and exhaust manifolds are sought after for the FAST racing crew..... otherwise, it's nearly 75 lbs of scrap.... dang was that intake heavy..

Haha, as I was looking at the first picture and caption I was going to comment on the weight of the iron intake, but you already did :P

So is that EGR any good?

Randal beat me off the line. I was thinking the same thing. Keep the intake around for working out. Keep them muscles all bulging.

I have an edelbrock performer intake in the basement that will eventually make it onto the Centurion. How ever I'm kinda tempted on trying a cheap EFI on it. Grab some junkyard late 70's Cadillac EFI rails (on the Old's engine) as they'll bolt down (I think) and use a hollowed out Q-jet for a throttle body on the cheap. If I do that I'll drill and or epoxy some injector bungs into the performer.

Re: 1970 Buick Skylark part II

So I finally get the thing fired up and it has exhaust leaks from hell.... so I take off the manifold and realize that the heat riser is no longer covered by the manifold... thus leak...

                              so I plug the holes

so the story is the hole should have been tapped for a pipe plug but because buick heads are super hard, no dice... so I did the next best thing... heat the cast iron and tack/weld the plugs in place.... good to go, no?

                              no

I fire motor up and while the exhaust leaks are better - they are certainly not fixed

looking at the front manifold bolt - there is a hole above it - for the heat riser tube that was on the old manifold.... of course I didn't realize that before, so back to the store for some 5/16s socket head bolts......

of course, have to take the manifold off again because the hold is about 10% covered by the manifold on 3 of the 4 holes - the last hole is completely exposed.

a few welds/tacks later (I'm getting damn good at removing the manifold) and it's back together... and no leaks

the earlier heads I have don't have those holes, and the heat riser is quite a bit different.... although next time I fill it with molton aluminum.....

anyway, now I can start tuning it.... the secondaries aren't opening so that will be first fix... then timing... wheee

Hmm, I never noticed those heat riser tube ports on the heads for the smog pump. I guess it's because my Centurion is running the stock intake and the Skylark is running a set of '70 heads without the smog pump. Good to keep in mind when I go to put the performer intake on the Centurion!

I've wondered about pipe plugging those holes, no dice eh?
