We skipped the venue in Bettendorf & have no regrets. We got to American Pickers after checking into the hotel, then got back to the hotel & relaxed. Granted, we weren't long haulers, but seeing the traffic lined up along the bridge we didn't want to deal with being in that unsafe position.
Hauling ass & sucking gas are the best uses for a truck.

I was amazed that I forked over the $80 for the metal sign too.......Alan may have the best plan. The survey only had 2 questions that I fudged a little on. It's a rare occasion that I play the PHD/ six-figure income card
Maybe I can clear this up.....I thought the cop was a prostitute.

Those survey questions are all about marketing, not improving event problems.

Kick-off party didn't have enough food. My friends paid the $300 and were told they were out of food? They did get some eventually after finding someone with PT, but didn't they plan food for all that paid the $300?

Same friends at one stop were told long haul parking was full. Again, didn't they know how many had paid the $300? I thought that's what the money (in advance) was for? So they knew.

They also told me at a Radisson they stayed at (host hotel) the restaurant actually closed early (rope put up) due to running out of food.

I myself (with them) experienced a shortage of food also, at the ISLE Casino Buffet. Waiting in line a 1/2 hour minimum, I paid full price, yet they had ran out of BBQ ribs (oh I like ribs) and no carved beef either. Roll tray had "1" in it... They said they were trying to get some turkey out soon. Great planning - didn't they know the hotel was full? Not Family Events fault, but were estimates of how many would stay there way off?

Also had a small breakfast stop in Iowa that ran out of some breakfast items. See a pattern here?

Hot Rod / Family Events needs to talk to MORE people (mayors, city officials, business owners) via a detailed letter, to many different officials in the same town, hoping "one" reads it, and it states all what to expect. And follow up on it - to be sure the information does get out. How? Have the person running the route stop at multiple places along the way (send 4 people - to split up the talking to them part) and have them be sure the cities & places to eat - have the "correct numbers" of how many cars / people to expect. It simple sounds like correct information is NOT getting to the right people - so this HAS to be figured out. Want me to do it? Put me on payroll... or just get it done. Sorry for the rant. It's just an event that I love. Or used to...
Yep, all accurate information. I was one of the suckers that paid 300 bucks for special treatment. It was more like special neglect. They knew EXACTLY how many people paid for the Gold package and still couldn't figure out how much food to make or how many parking spaces to rope off? Seriously. 3 out of 7 stops I couldn't find the Gold parking and the traffic directors couldn't tell me where it was. They took 100% of my money in advance and provided me with 57% of what I paid for. I complained to one of the ladies in a Family Events shirt -said she was in charge of marketing- and she promised me the President of Family Events would call me to talk to me about my experience. I don't think that call will ever come, they got my money so who cares if I am happy about it or not?

I'll Long Haul again because it is in my blood but I won't ever fall for the old FE bait and switch again.

What if somewhere along the days route, say, one of the small towns. Whoever is in charge, they give out a "ticket" to people with long haul credentials, as they drive by that way would eliminate the crush for the time clocks. Just an idea.

I just ran a 10K road race the 4th of July- On the back of your number you pin on your shirt there was an 'electronic strip" to identify you when you cross the start line and the finish line. A few hours after the race- you simply put in name or number on a website and you had your time for the race- but only down to seconds... This was done for over 50,000 runners. Have a metal strip stuck on the windshield - and sensors at several exits to the venue- plainly marked. I'm SURE something like this would keep multiple card carriers from stamping a handful of cards at each event to get a bogas thin metal plate and a piece of paper....

Yup! How many $$$s spent. Helps "sell" the Tour to Cities.

Actually just adding 3 or 4 more clocks would work in that situation instead of just have 2 of the 3 working......I also believe theses are the same clocks they have been using for at least 10 years.............the exact same ones..........

Getting in the venues would be a lot easier if they did away with that asshole that takes pictures, his contract with FE says they will funnel registered cars past him, do away with him, open more entrances to the venues, traffic flows smoother, there just fixed it....

They should have a "special" entrance for those that want their picture taken and then many other entrances for everyone else. Or multiple picture takers.

I don't think we got there early enough to get our picture taken anywhere except the first venue.

I never saw a photo taker, so he does not get all the cars anyway. So why hold up "the many" for just the "one"...? So you loose 1 vendor. You please 1,000's...

Good idea. At Cruisin' the Coast, the pictures are taken when we are leaving the Cruise Central venue. There was such a traffic jam at Little Rock last year, the police had us to bypass the photographer.
