First time DWer here. I've got a bit of compression in my junk, and while it hasn't been a problem for me, since I have a local source of 94 octane at the pump, I'm wondering what octane availability I should expect in the general area of the DW route? I can live on 93, but if I'm limited to 91, I'll need to swap heads or add water injection.

Unfortunately, I think 91 is probably going to be the norm, but all the tracks should have race gas available.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I was wondering about the E10 vs. straight gas myself. I know last year I had to fill up more than once when the best available fuel was 89 octane, but at least it was straight fuel. Last year I just spiked my tank every morning with some race gas, seemed to work ok.

When I was in Noble last Oct, I looked high and low for 93 but could not find any. We even drove well out of our way to a station that supposedly had it. No dice. Locals may know of some, but I came up with nothing. No-ethanol gasoline is available if that's what you prefer to run.
91 works for me though. 11.6:1, 185psi cranking at 3600' MSL.Last edited by BBR; May 7, 2014, 02:02 PM.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Yeah I just used 87 swill to drive with, 12.4-1 compression. Cam bleeds off a lot so its fine cruising. If you dont have the option to drain and use better fuel you can add a small tank and use it for track use.Dragweek 2012 DNF in Dallas

Tulsa is all 91 for the highest. There is several places around that have no ethanol but fewer that have it for the premium grade. There is E85 available at a few places around town. The "Kum and Go"(yep thats the name) chain has built several new stores and it seems they all have E85. There is a store within a few miles of the track called Batman's that I believe has premium with no ethanol. I'll check and post back up its just 1/2 mile from my work.
My car is 11:1 with 180 Cranking and its fine on 91 and doesn't respond any better to 93. I run 35* of timing locked out as well.1968 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S 340 with a 360

That place is a craphole, there is 3 more gas stations just 1/2 mile further from that one.
We will probably go north this year from the track though, lots of stations in owasso.Last edited by BlueCuda340; May 8, 2014, 05:36 AM.1968 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S 340 with a 360

I thought about pump gas quality/availability last year when putting mine together. The solution? I added a timing retard for pump gas detonation prevention - flip a switch and pull 6 degrees off (had to use the third retard module for something!)DW2013 - DNF (Gateway - trans failure)
DW2014 - SR BB/PA class winner!
DW2015 - Finished in 1 piece (for once!)
DW2016 - Still "Fox Free" ;)
