  • Radiator fan suggestions

Looking for a fan that's as low amp as feasibly possible with best air movement/performance. Our electrical system is robust, but prefer not using 40 amp fan. Lol

383 stroked/bored to 431. N/A with FI. The flow under hood should be fine. Fender well headers and magnaforce k-member keep it simple and less obstructed underneath as well. Won't know til we know though. Lol

Just trying to do some research now. Oh, has Griffen radiator now that maxes out stock radiator mount. Suppose we could cut it out to fit bigger radiator. Don't think need too though.

Just want to know people's experience with lower amp style performance radiators. Thanks for ideas!

I only use Spal fans, any good electric fan will pull at least 20 amps. Don't be as concerned with cfm, the amp rating will tell you how much air it will move. A1 electric is a good reference site for fan comparison. Also your fan shroud design will be just as important as the fan you decide to use.

    all time best 10.27 @ 127

Thanks! I have heard great things about their fans ...and appreciate the tips!

I picked this one up for my new radiator. I have NOT used it yet so I am only going by what it says that I should be OK. I don't have the CI you do, but probably have more compression. it's fairly light weight, only draws 17 amps and claims it will be able to flow 2500 cfm, which should be plenty for my e85 fed combo (which will run cooler due to more density of the fuel). It has amazing reviews, and after handling it in person, it's a real nice piece. I hope it works as well as I think it will, lol!

          Cool. Lol. thanks for info.

I guess it will boil down to size and fitment - and which one, Spal or Syclone, has best fit (area and thickness ) ... thanks guys!

i also bought that fan partially on price point. i'm extremely budget limited and am trying to put together a program way faster than i could usually justify, lol! hope i didn't shoot myself in the foot over $50 (spal has one similar in size for about that much more money). I'm going to build a shroud though, so hopefully that will be enough that it will keep up.

Ya. Good shroud design can make it ... and poor one break it. Learned that years ago stuffing 455 in 76 Firebird.

Also, the air flow you can get to it. My wife's '57 with moderate 454 took a specially built, huge radiator. You'd think a car supposedly so big would be fine ... but its actually small engine compartment and crap for flow.

Good luck man ... keep wrenching. Maybe we'll run into each other at local test and tune ... but, of course, our expected finish date is at least a month away now with all changes ... lol

Generally, if you are looking for the best bang for your buck, get a used one... The aftermarket ones have a spotty reputation. Original OEM fans are designed to move a lot of air and last for hundred's of thousands of miles...

^^^^ this is the one i'm using. I have my Holley Efi controlling it with Pwm (pulse width modulation) and a SSR (solid state relay). When racing I have the fan moving 50% at 140°, and 100% at 150°. Once i hit 75% TPS the fan shuts off for the pass for less electrical load. On the street it spins 50% at 160, 75% at 170 and 100% at 180. At 40mph i have the fan shut off

I run a Chevrolet HHR fan. It has been great over the years. 552" BBF in an 83 Mustang.
