  • Street eliminator class questions

I have emailed hotrod my questions, but keep getting a delivery failed notice so I assume that email address is no longer in use or not being used at this time. So hopefully someone in here can help me out?... I have been doing power tour for several years and want to try drag week.
    (1) is a 2 step allowed
    (2) is a tranny brake allowed
    (3) is a line lock allowed
    (4) is a turbo allowed

Did you read the rules? This should get you started

I think all that stuff is legal. The SME class has a rule that you can't turn in a time slip faster than 10.0, that's about it. And you need "racing" tires, either drag radials or slicks.

Squirrel thanks for the reply, I have read the rules . But am unsure on the 2 step. It says no stepper boxes. Are they meaning no throttle stepper boxes or 2 step spark boxes? I know some of the local bracket guys have throttle boxes that only allow so much throttle off the line then goes wide open after they leave so far out. And as for the line lock and Trans brake questions I'm not sure if they see those as bracket race components. And the turbo question was just to be sure for peace of mind during my build so I don't have to change up the combo half way through my build. I'm just not understanding what they mean and looking for some clarification . Thanks again.

What does the 2 step you have, do? Maybe if you describe it better, we can help you figure out if it's legal or not.

The brake and line lock should be ok if they're controlled manually with a button.

The 2 step I have is a rev limiter that I can set to say 3000 rpm for launching the car. When I let off the button then it will switch to the high Rev limit like a normal Rev limiter.

sounds to me like the kind of thing they don't want you using.....???? At least that's what I get from reading their list of illegal stuff.

What they don't want are delay, "stutter" and throttle stop boxes. Launching a turbo car off of a manual two-step without a delay feature ought to be a-ok.

Compliance is mostly honor code, considering the laxity of tech inspections.

                Definition I found:

A stutter box is basically a rev limiter set up to come on at the middle or top end of the track. They were used to control et's, but are now illegal. Check the NRHA's rule book.
Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

you can also just email them when the time comes, I don't know if they will answer now regarding drag week 2017. I emailed them a few times this past year leading to the event with all sorts of tech questions and they responded all of them quickly.

                    A. Parker Racing's 1971 Dodge Demon Super Gas with Steven Parker at the controls during the 2013 NHRA LODRS Division 3 event @ Summit Motorsports Park. This...

Start at about the 1:10 mark . . . This Super Gas car is running a box. Hear how the r.p.m. is held down for a brief time near the start. That's what I usually observe, but I'm by no means an expert. Probably no way to sneak something like that by in the bracket race.

Nick's first passes on the new setup, installed the night before in his 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse. On the setup (Garrett GT3582R ) he went 9.911 at 9.911 @ 143...

Another example of using one after the start . . . perhaps unintentionally (combined with using a rev limiter to spool a turbo)
