  • 2005 silverado 1500 brake lights

My dad-in-law has an 05 silverado, the brake lights in the bed dont work, but the cab mount light does. all the other functions of the bulbs work fine, and the bulbs have been replaced.

there is a module under the bed, could that be the issue?

    thanks guys!

could it be the turn signal switch? I guess troubleshooting is what you need to do....lotsa possible failure points. And they have mutiplexing on the newer ones...when did that start?

We've had lots of problems with taillight sockets/circuit boards. Power gets to light assembly but not bulb itself. Would be first place to check and then move to switch, fuse, wiring, etc. if "socket" tests good

that check list is awesome!! I havent torn the column apart yet to mess with the multifunction switch, which seems to be what the issue is most of the time, according to my "firewall acceptable" search today at work.

I was kinda hoping several of you guys would have had this crappy issue!! lazy me...

thanks guys will post this week end, after i tear into the column....

no kidding. it's crazy that everything goes through that switch.

the truck only has 30,000 miles on it too.

Well, it isnt the multi-function switch. that would leave that module under the bed maybe.

                      fuse(s) are good
                      bulbs are good.
                      hazards flash
high mount light in the cab works, just not the brake lights in the bed... or the trailer connector

Bam, I just troubleshooted an S10 with the same problem. Ended up being the turn signal switch.
