A cool G is what I was expecting.

My business partner was thinking $1200

It was $1500 plus tax, so $1600

Posi was $460, gears were $350!!! , axle bearings, the installation kit (shims/gaskets), seals, oil, additive, misc shop fee and the $450 labor charge was more than I thought it would be, but they did at least thoroughly wash the whole housing inside to eliminate any metal particles because they warranty their work.

I guess the price differences are the difference between cost and list price. Most shops charge "list price" so they can make profit on parts as well as labor.

I did my 500 mile service last night.
              - impact wrench on 5/16" cover bolts? Jeez guys! I had to use my 1/2" ratchet to get the cover off.
              - lots of glitter in the oil... Googling, that seems common...But it sure is ugly.
              - why did they remove my magnet from inside the cover? Should I ask them, or not worry about it since they warranty their work?
...I mean it didn't fall off in 33 years or when the locker exploded... Why remove it?

$1600 does leave a dent in the savings account, but when presented with these kinds of pains, I usually remind myself of the price of a new one, that axle was less than 4 payments on a new equivalent truck, and the insurance/registration would be more on the new truck too. Feel better now?
There's always something new to learn.

Yep. It was just over 3 payments of the last truck I bought.
...It was also more than I paid for this truck, but I'm sticking with the " cheaper to fix it " mindset.
One of the "big three" down. Engine and transmission are the other two.

put the magnet back in.... uber important - especially since by the time it does blow up others will have sued the shop out of business..
