  • The Ault&James speed shop/Oleynik car hauler is for sale!

Ault & James Speed shop C65 Olyenik enclosed hauler.
Owned and cared for since 1984 by Jim DeFrank (DeFrank & Sons racing, California Car Cover, Beverly Hill Motoring Accessories) Jim has saved a number of vehicles that were special to him and is now “letting go” of some of his life’s favorite racing related vehicles. (we bought, refurbished then sold the Sam Gianinno GMC/Oleynik hauler from Jims collection in 2009, as well as the “TONY” SS/D 1968 SS396 Camaro 2 short years ago, which was stored inside this truck for many years, as well as a very nice El Camino SS).
Based on a 1977 C65 Chevrolet medium duty truck chassis with the “truck” 366 ci engine with a 5 speed manual trans and electric 2 speed rear axle. This truck appears to have been ordered through Tom Myl at Batey Chevrolet in Carnegie, Pa. in the fall of 1977. GVW is 22,000 lbs and while licensed commercial in California, it could easily be converted to motorhome classification.
Hauler body by Lou Olyenik, completed on March 1st of 1977. 26 ft long Brown van body with Oak strip floor, beavertail and risers, winch built into the floor at the front of the right side riser. (See photos) Thirty inch sleeper bunk with vertical hanger closet and upper cabinets at the front of the garage compartment with a lower storage compartment as well. Custom aluminum fuel tank covers and seat cover, odometer showing 24,523 (actual 124,523-verifiable through California smog program) engine was rebuilt at approx. 100,000 miles. This piece of racing history has not been used regularly since 2001, currently registered non-op commercial in California.
Originally built to haul the Modified production Corvettes of the Ault & James Speed shop in Dayton, Ohio, this truck was sold to Lee Montgomery with the Union speed shop in Nashville, Tennessee in 1983, then sold to Jim DeFrank (DeFrank & Sons Racing and California Car Cover, Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories) in 1985 where it has enjoyed a life of hauling premier race and show cars before being retired in 2001. Jim has stored the truck outdoors with a cab cover for many years. This is a 35 year old truck in remarkable condition, stored in the dry San Fernando Valley since the mid 80s, but does have some minor issues. The a/c is complete and has a new compressor but needs a couple hoses to be completed and charged. The tires are/were brand new Michelin Radials, 10-R22, in 2004, with NO USE or visible tread wear, but have sidewall dry rot cracks showing. Engine starts and runs smooth, clutch was replaced when engine was rebuilt, front brakes are excellent, rears have not been recently checked. (See photos) There is minor rust in the right side cab rocker area and the hood hinge area on the hood on passenger side (see photos). Cab is equipped with an Alpine stereo and cassette deck, a custom seat cover, factory a/c and Cheyenne door panels. The built in sleeper compartment is upholstered in a nice brown vinyl tuck and roll design that matches the trucks interior.
Complete paper trail including warranty registration to Jerry Ault through Jim DeFranks ownership comes with truck as well as parts and broadcast packets from GM building of the chassis.
    $10,000.00

    no rust on frame!

several interested parties asked about the potential for frame rot due to the few years this truck lived in Ohio, although it is unlikely it was driven on salt covered roads, I took some pics underneath today after the Mooneyes Irwinndale trip-a little dirty down there, but no rust whatsoever!
