Since building a quick street truck is still illegal, the pre-runner sounds like a great idea.

How about a quick pre-runner one if the reasons I am still alive today is my dad would not let me have a v8 car when I was 16. Your son may be better than I was.

My own experience was that my first car was a 73 F100, 302, which at times, I drove like an idiot. My second truck was an '84 Ford Ranger, 2.0L 4cyl, 4 speed, which at times, I drove like an idiot.
The vehicle didn't change the tendency to be an idiot at times.

I started out with a six, and drove like an idiot. Then when I was 17, I swapped in a big block, and continued to drive like an idiot. Your boys have been riding dirt bikes for a while, so they're probably already used to having some power.

It was the opposite for me. I started with a '73 Coupe De Ville with a 500 engine that had 500+ ft lbs of torque, then got stuck with a '77 Accord hatchback. It had 80 lousy horsepower. 80!!! I did far more stupid stuff in that little car than the big one.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Jake has been pestering me to start working on "his" truck, so Saturday we moved it to the front of the line and dove in.
Swapping vent windows for another set that had much better seals.
Pulling out the cluster and starting to remove the hacked up wiring harness.
We made some good progress. Installed the vent windows, cleaned all the leaves, etc out of the cowl (what a mess!), installed an antenna, replaced the driver's side floor vent block off with a sliding vent, removed the weirdo t-bird upper column stuff and began replacing it with the correct parts.
Ran into a strange situation with the column though. After all the correct stuff was installed, I slipped the Grant steering wheel adapter on and it is probably (from memory) 1/2-3/4" from touching the horn contact. Something is wonky, because it's like the steering shaft is too long. Sometimes I think this truck was built from about 10 different pickups. lolLife is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Is Jake standing on the ground in that first picture? Holy Moly he's tall already!
Guess I shouldn't be surprised - Will is 5'10" and just turned 13 last month.
Cool progress.Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

Yes, is is all of 6 feet tall, and turns 15 this coming weekend. It's crazy how fast they shoot up in the 12-15 age range!
It was a fun day. He has never been really "into" working on cars, but now that he has one to work on, he is really motivated! Haha. He is itching to swap the EFI engine and trans in it.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Took a couple of pics of the column issue. Squirrel sent a pic of his. I thought the lower flange was bent, but after seeing Jim's pic, now I'm thinking the column housing itself is slid down relative to the shaft. Since the housing has long slotted mounts, I'm going to check it later for witness marks. Oh well, we'll get it figured out.

he had to slide the steering column up on the shaft. There are adjustment slots, where it mounts under the dash.

I was happy to see power steering on this truck with that tiny steering wheel ( compared to the ship's tiller these usually come with) Although, a tiny steering wheel with armstrong steering does build character in young men.
