  • Rebeldryver's '65 Impala SS Black Betty

This is the 65 Impala SS. 383 4 spd. Last spring it got a new nose because of a idiot driver last Christmas. I got it back together and rattle canned it low gloss black just before Car Craft's Anti-Tour in April where it ran horribly 16.05 @80 mph then 15.35 @81.50 mph. UGH!! I did some retuning and ran 14.65 @95.17 mph at Sacramento Raceway two weeks ago which redeemed me somewhat.

My other car is the luxo-muscle-barge, a 70 Caprice Coupe with an LS4 454 (345 hp), th400, discs, 12 bolt, rallys and a whole bunch of rare options. I found this at a local salvage yard for $2000 pretty much the way you see it here and drove it home. The engine is still unrebuilt and has a nearly flat cam, but still runs great and pulls hard. I added a Holley 3310 750, a Pertronix unit, 2 1/2 inch exhaust with Summit's big Turbos, 100 one wire alternator, AC runs on 134, and I just spent the last month fighting with a new steering box, pump, hoses and coupler.

That 65 is a true candidate for a roller paint job... the car's cool as hell... a nice 100 dollar roller job would simply make it right...

it's going to be a pain in the ass with that much sheet metal... But .... ya wanted the work any way didn't you?

The stance you got on the '65 is perfect! I was wondering what diff gears it has to give me ideas for my land barge?

It currently has the factory 8.2 inch 10 bolt with the Eaton posi and 3.36 gears. With an auto it would cruise at 3000 rpm at 70 which was bearable. Now with my NP440 4 spd with overdrive it's a bit low. I want 3.50's. Though with the current trans and gears I only pull 3200 at 100 mph. I should do the Silver State Classic with the car.

Thanks! My Centurion has 2.93's out back and was wondering because of the track times. (Though significantly different power trains so it's still apples to oranges, but interesting). If you ever decide to sign up for the Silver State let me know and you could crash (no pun intended) here at my house. Some day I intend to enter my Skylark in it but that will be a few years out. I need to get it here first, then ditch the 7.5" rear end

My Caprice's 12 bolt has either 2.73's or 3.08's but I haven't taken the time to find out for sure. It just loafs at 75 mph but still sucks the gas. I haven't raced it yet.

This ran in May in the 125mph Bracket, '66 Grand Sport, Buick 425engine (stock intake and Q-jet) and TKO-600. You'd fit right in

My car will do 125 easy, but I don't think the original lap belts will get me through tech.

That is a very cool Buick. I wish I could afford one of those TKO's. I'll just have to stick with my poor man's overdrive tranny.

Yeah I spent a bonus check on my TKO-600, ebay usually has the best deals, but if you look at getting one make sure you get the GM one and not a Ford one.

If you plan on driving your car hard, I wouldn't reccomend a TKO. They have problems blowing up during third gear 6500+ shifts. Its a problem tremec knows about and has no intention of ever fixing. I dropped $1900 on one and could of had a nice t101 4 spd reman for that much. you can also get a 3+OD from them as well, maybe turk or DF can chime in a little more about that

I started messing around with the video mode on my digicamera. So here's what Granny's luxo-muscle-barge and Black Betty sound like.

Awesome stance, just needs a little more horsepower.. ;)
