        • So beside getting my '40 in a magazine, my H3 is again the subject of a calendar... twice!

          these pictures
it does look good in the snow

what's funny is this picture doesn't even begin to explain how steep this was going down...

I wonder if the H3 was mad at me for taking the '40 to where the 1st picture was taken this last weekend?

            • a Zombie arises... actually this is my DD and it is getting some needed love

              pads were pretty worn

I think I found one of the noises

              rears even more worn

the right front had a shiny spot on the caliper... my guess as to what caused it is this - the brakes wore enough that the caliper was just touching the wheel... because it wasn't a hub, bushing or any other issue...
and it's impossible to see but on the inside top of this caliper

              the wear on the wheel

also the floating pins on the top in the back were not floating anymore.... took a bit of doing but got it apart and lubed appropriately

              going back together

              racing slots ;)

yeah, I know they make a clever tool to do this... this works as long as you remember you can pop those pistons out by pushing down (if unrestrained) on any of the other 3

              together again

I replaced the hub but I don't think that was what was wrong

I think I'll have my friend put the radiator in.... I've other things to get accomplished

              • Time to fix the cats (P0420)

upper is the new Magnaflow high-flow cat, below is the stock cat
literally I removed the old cat and welded in the new one

                like this

and then this nut happened (my cuss of yesterday)

but I over came and added a section to remove the post-cat

that said, these plugs look pretty good for 155,000 mile rig

and they have been running a touch lean - I haven't decided whether I'll contact the tuner about retuning or simply do it myself. There also was a bit of predetonation .... if you can't read plugs, you should learn - it will tell you everything you need to know about a motor....

                • so.... things:

                  1) coils can go bad just by replacing cats.... how? not quite sure but I know for sure I had to replace it
                  2) 2004 Denali coils are interchangeable
                  3) I need to add more fuel because it flows LOTS better
                  4) there is an exhaust leak that I may or may not fix.
                  5) it makes a bunch more power (I know, right, remove restriction and get more power - whodaguessedthat? - probably Pdub, but not me)

                  • hmmm....maybe instead of a regular gasser straight axle
i should put a dana 60 front axle on the 55 belvedere...
and a transfer case...and some 33's.... then i could go
wheeling too. been a few decades since the monster
                    79 K5 with 2.5 ton rockwells, 496 stroker, 13" lift and 40 hawgs...

man, what kind of mushrooms did the wife put in that omelet?

He speaks of realism while living in Hawaii, I think another one of those quips the singularity will collapse and the world will end.

Someone asked on FB what they needed to add to their Jeep. They listed a hi lift jack, lights, roll bar, chain saw, straps.... I suggested lockers. Realism is a funny thing.

i would have suggested a chevy V8, dana 60's front and rear, (with lockers of course)
and 4.56 gears, a 6" lift and spring over conversion with shackle reversal, 36" fun countrys.....
                            see? "REALISTIC".....

                              You mean "a good start"

this is a good DD FJ40 4.56 gears, 38.5 tires, locked front/rear, 3 link front, 4 link rear, 350 chevy, tbi, manual transmission.

                              • I learned stuff.... brand new spark plugs can be faulty (cracked). Brand new coils will be destroyed in 10 minutes or less by broken spark plugs..... now you learned stuff too - only it didn't cost $800 for you to learn it.
