  • dodge dakota project

i started this truck last year after i broke the transmission housing. the original plan was to put a big block in it but i think i will leave the small block in and just take out as much weight as i can. it currently has a bone stock 5.9 with 150,000 miles, an 8 3/4 rear with 3.91 gears and a spool. it runs 14.20 @ 94mph in the quarter

I love my Dak. It's just a stock '98 5.3 trailer tower (moves the race car just fine). I'm not sure why I enjoy driving it so much, but I do. When my wife gets home with the camera, I post a pic. Nothin' special, but I like it.

It shouldn't be too hard to make a little more power with the 5.9, the 3.91 gears are a nice magnifier.

The intake would be the first to go IMO see http://www.hughesengines.com/ for some Magnum engine speed parts....ditch the one you got for a modified intake (with shorter runners) or an M1

Wow. I have the greatest respect for anyone willing to do a frame off on any car. I have to admit that this the first time I've ever since a frame off on a Dakota. Keep at it.

I considered another Dak project, but the Toy pup weighs 2500 stock. Still thinking about it, i 've found a truck for $150- $200.
