  • The "Golden Kadett".....my 68' Opel.

Well......Things have changed a little in my house over the past few months and it looks like I won't be able to give this car to Luke since I will most likely need a reliable DD. I am looking to get a new job soon and will no longer have the luxury of a company truck, and I just can't drive something crappy.....

    Soooo.....Here is my plan.....

    I have a 68' Opel Kadett 1500 4 speed.....that I plan to stick a 5.3 LS motor and a 200-4r (or 700R4) trans into....plus an 8.8 rear end with a 2.73 gear...

Here is the kicker....the car only weighs 1500 lbs. ;D

I figure that when complete we should be around 1900-1950 lbs.....That should allow for some serious gas mileage when combined with the tall gear and OD trans.....I am also going to increase the rear tire to a 26" (it is currently a 22").....

I was planning to paint the car sour apple green metallic since Luke likes green......but now I needed a new color so that I can still paint the next car I get him green.....

So I am painting it Mayan Gold Metallic.....http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-UP315/?rtype=10

With black scallops on the hood pinstriped in red......I am keeping black steelies......Here are some pics of it as it sits now.

    Her is the color scheme...

      I need help locating parts......

      Here is what I need.....

      8.8 rear....complete with brakes.....preferably with the 2.73 gear....posi is a must...15x7 steelies are a plus

      Engine wiring harness and PCM...

      Coilpacks.....

Trans.....Like I said.....2004R or 700R4......200 is preferred for weight savings.

If I can find a wrecked pickup with the whole drivetrain intact I will also consider it....even a 4.8 cause I already have the 5.3 and an LS1 intake and TB.

Here is the kicker.......I need this stuff for cheap....I am not looking for a new job because the pay at mine is good....I just took a killer paycut and need to keep it as cheap or free as possible.

I will probably need help working on it too as I get more into the project......You up for it Bill? It will be sanding most likely, but still important...

I need to finish up the van bodywork before the car gets any paint.....but I would like to have all the parts for the Opel in the next few weeks....

When's this got to be done by? That's a ton of firewall and trans tunnel work....... Plus making sure it'll stop decently with the extra weight and more so taller tires.

            Soon.....but not immediately.....Hopefully Maxton in April. ;D

Its deadline is directly dependent on my job search.

Seth, do you know what the Opel wheel lug pattern is. If you use an 8.8 from a FOX body, it would be super easy if 4 lug LX wheels fit all the way around. I know it's not an 8.8 but, you can HAVE the 7.5 rear from the pacecar, I think it's 2.73 to boot. Update to an 8.8 from that point would be easy down the road when one pops up for $FREE.99.

I have three TRX wheels you can have too ;D

Will the 7.5 handle 300-400 horsepower? I honestly don't know....

                Opel wheels are 4x4....i think.

I have a 700r4 here we can use for mock up. When we do the body work we can start clearancing sheet metal for the drive train.

At 1600lbs without sticky rubber, it should. I thought this was going to be a daily driver for gas mileage?

I know, having a cake that you can eat too.

                      I think 4 1/4 is what a 4 lug Ford is.

In that light of a vehicle probably no problem. I did a little beating on a GM 7.5" with a ~320HP Buick 455.
