  • I am behind on photos, so here goes:

Since the generator pulley was shot and replacement generators do not come with one, I went the cheap Napa 1 wire alternator route. They are $45.00 and are rated for 63 amps. These are GM type, but I made it work with a threaded rod, a spacer, and GMC's original upper bracket. Then I cut up the original bracket for added support. See the pics:

    • I also finished installing the Hurst Indy shifter. I pointed the shift levers on the transmission down, like the original ones, but the shift pattern was reversed. Today I fixed that. It still needs a bit of final adjusting to be perfect.

      • Last Sunday was so nice out that we decided to tool around the county a bit to explore and look for decent iron. It was also to run gas out of the tank as it was leaking. Here are some shots of the car that day.

          • I was still having the smell of mouse nests in the car. Discovered these in the door jams where the door hinges go into the fenders.

            • Nice progress. I dig the 3sp through the floor!

                • I had to go back to the shifter linkage tonight to fix it from constantly jamming halfway between first and second gear. Had a friend work the shifter, while I was under the car figuring out the solution. A slight dent in the floor board and bending the 2-3 linkage rod. Now, the shifter bangs hard through the gears.

Now, back to that damned leaky sending unit on the gas tank.

                  • Ugh, is it on the side of the gas tank? My t-bird's was always a pain whenever I removed it. It was a crap shoot if it were sealed up or not.

It is in the front, just like my Impala. While convenient to work on, especially if the tank has gas in it, it makes getting it sealed more important if I want to fill up the tank.

                      • Side/front, yeah that's what I meant. Yup, super convenient when I was troubleshooting the low fuel light wiring, but not so convenient when it leaked the next time I filled up!

I now put a small dab of "Non-Hardening" gas resistant sealant on the gasket to keep it in place. The stuff is truly non-hardening which is nice.

                        • The local exhaust artist got me quick and did the vintage Nascar style I wanted. Shockingly, he said the head pipes were in excellent shape, so he left them. I trust him based on what he did on my truck and about a dozen friends vehicles. The original headpipes had a H pipe too. Kept it simple for now.

                          • I made a couple videos of the new exhaust note. So much better than before.

The first was out in the rain at the exhaust shop.

Farm yard find 64 Galaxie 500 2 dr sedan. Hasnt run since 1983. Back on the road again. New exhaust.

The second was in the garage at home.
