  • Bonneville Test & Tune July 2014

About 50 vehicles showed up at the Bonneville Salt Flats this weekend for the USFRA Test & Tune. This is a 3 mile run up to a 132' speed trap. Not like speedweek where speeds are the average of a mile starting at the 2, then 3, then 4.
    So far...
Danny Thompson streamliner is fastest @ 317 mph. This car last ran on the salt almost 50 years ago.driven by the late Mickey Thompson.
Treat & Davinport Target 550 streamliner ran 278 mph
Keith Coplands Modified Sports cars ran 314 (yes 3-1-4) for a car!
Strasburbs & Wolfe Blown Fuel Lakester ran 303 mph
    Carbonite streamliner ran 278 mph
    Flashpoint streamliner ran 303 mph

These speeds are second hand info and I will update when I get further info.

Several of these cars have never run before on the salt.

Good for Danny! Also - the Carbonite liner looks wicked fast.

Very cool. I'm glad that the Thompson crew got a chance to get their feet wet before Speed Week.

Mike - thanks for the update. See you in Impound!

Given the numbers posted, Speedweek should be awesome!

          Update: second hand.....

Treat & Davenport broke a motor

          Turbinator had some handling issues

Carbonite was dealing with fueling problems

Flashpoint set top time of the meet @ 342 mph... remember this is through a 132' speed trap at the 3 mile mark. At speed week this means you'd still have 2 more miles to go.........

550 car back fired the front engine and had a fire on the rear engine. Blew a panel off the left side and screwed one up on the right. Might not be ready for Speedweek.

That's too bad. Sounds like no one was hurt and it'll live to fight another day so it could have been worse for sure.

Here is a cell phone video of the Flashpoint Streamliner setting top time of the event @ 341 mph.
Remember he still has 2 more miles to go at Speedweek.

I'm going to be bummed if T&D don't make it.

Am I missing something, or is Speed Demon the only car that runs a full perimeter ground skirt?

                            1. My personal thoughts on aero would require a full perimeter ground skirt.
                            2. Speed Demons relative success would suggest some empirical support for full ground skirts.

Like everything in LSR, there are divergent opinions. Probably why I'm slow? Besides, I look silly in a skirt (and it's not legal in my class).
