there is a group on facebook
fans of the strategic air command SAC.
    if you like facebook.
they don't let every one in.. I bet you would be interesting.

There are some cooler than grandpa, enough to wake the dead...

They let me in, "the last of SAC trained killers on the tanker."
there is a famous saying about the first and the last..

anyway, here is an artist that hangs out there.

            • The "creative" builders are at it again. Not sure what this started out as.
Funny part is that the seller emphasizes that it is a twin turbo, then only gives a price for it without the engine. https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/6086884123.html

Park a new Challenger next to a '70 and you realize how bloated they look. I'd take the old truck over the new one anyday.

                  • New project X for a friends sandrail. Factory efi big block 2000cc converted to dual 44IDF Webers and 1.5" header.

Currently his sandrail has a 2165cc (132ci) with 78mm stroke and 94mm bore.

Project X has a 71mm stroke and 94mm bore. Actual displacement is 2056cc or 125ci. Should be more torquey.

He just fired it for the first time 10 minutes ago. Success!

that would leave me tinkering for days.

i would think with a shorter stroke it would make more hp and better rpm but less torque....
like how a 4" stroke x 4.25 bore 454 makes more torque than the same 4.250 bore
with 3.76 stroke 427, but the 427 sure likes to scream and hp capabilities might be
                        better....

                        • All the VW flat four engines we have built with lots more bore than stroke have been stump pullers. They don't rev uber high, but they sure have gobs of grunt. At least compared to stroked engines with the same bore size. Maybe it's misleading since the strokers rev so much higher.

The strokers still have more bore than stroke....I don't know anyone who has spent the cash for a 86mm crank just to run stock 85.5mm cylinders on it.

I do see your point though. This could be a great topic for discussion.......maybe you could start a new topic on under square vs over square engines?

boxer is a different animal. That torque gain is a backwards to agree with.
a turbo should cram the stroker, if to keep the torque on the win.

a 305 outdoes the hillclimb over a 350.. but that is wet sleeve versus siamese, and rod ratio...stamina for cooling, energy.
slamming a quarter , the 350 is great.

I have learned all these lessons.. even through dad's 40 years of diesel trucking.

the boxer really is different. Can't even blame the four sperate bores on the bug.
my own liquid boxer, never getting a turbo. 67mm stroke. Really silly.
I have a $1k pair of special heads they made for turbo, made to be aced as natural.
                            it does better.

breaks a few myths.. those old boxers.

                            • The Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time photograper: Taken from my patio about five minutes ago, having heard the noise coming (four radials make a distinctive sound) and running for the camera. That thing's not going to fly too well with half-a-wing cut off. Yes we live near a small airport, used by hobbyists and the war bird tour is in town...maybe tomorrow we'll go out there.
