  • Collier Motors

Well, drove the Wagon down from New Jersey on Sunday, stopped outside of Pikeville, in Goldsboro, NC to sleep since the Navy doesn't allow you to drive more than 12 hours straight (though who would have known if I did, but it was too dark to see Collier motors then, so it worked out)
Eagle returned 28.8 MPGs, I had just wired in a Sun Tachometer, and on the way there, it POURED, and 2 bolts on the wiper motor backed out, which is what I had the tach grounded to, so I had off center wipers and no tach. When I got to Collier Motors, I found the number for them in the phone book, and the owner, Bobby Collier, came out and and gave me the grand tour, it was INCREDIBLE, the red AMX you see in the service bay was Barry Goldwater's, though somebody had taken an axe to the trunk lid which had a bunch of emblems from places he had been. The old Nash was in a movie with Alec Baldwin, I don't remember which one.
He sold a lot of the cars he had there new, and just bought them back when the owners wanted to sell, really nice guy, he was a Machinist's Mate in the old Navy too!
He even let me take some bolts off one of the cars so I could fix my wipers, when I offered him money, he turned it down. I'd really like to save up a bunch of leave and money and help clean that place up some day, I'd love to see all those cars without the grass.

Hey Russell! Let's make the pilgrimage one of these days. Sounds like a great day trip. I didn't know what part of NC that was in. A good lunch and an exploration would be fun.

sounds like fun! I sure it would be a lot more fun if we can get up with the owner it is all inside a chain link fence. Take I40 west get off at Exit 355 NC 403 take a right that turns in to US 117 N for about 30 miles.

Eagle - Do you think Mr. Collier would welcome a couple of crazed car junkies? If so, do you have contact info?
